http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/Flash.aspx/137526(IsraelNN.com) While MK Nissim Zeev of Shas proposed a law outlawing late abortions on Monday, MK Zahava Gal-On of the leftist Meretz party proposed a law that would allow women to abort for any reason. Women are currently required to explain their reasons for wanting an abortion to a committee. The committee grants the vast majority of requests.
Gal-On called the required meeting with the abortion committee a “humiliating ordeal,” and said the requirement discriminates based on financial status. Rich women can afford illegal abortions in private clinics, she said, while other women cannot afford an abortion if their request is denied.
Gal-On submitted the same proposal six months ago. The law failed to pass a preliminary hearing, leading her to resubmit it in November.
