Muslim family signs up for donated Christmas gifts.....and gets them

Humera's family doesn't celebrate Christmas, but even so, she and her husband didn't find it easy explaining to their children why they weren't getting any gifts.

Religion aside – the family is Muslim – it had been a difficult year and they simply couldn't afford the books, dolls and train sets touted by catalogues and coveted by children.

Humera's husband, a taxi driver, was stricken with a combination of jaundice and hepatitis that left him too weak to work. And though Humera took up babysitting to help make ends meet, it still wasn't enough to keep them off welfare.

Her two eldest, then 7 and 6 years old, would see the treats and toys piling up at their friends' houses and naturally wonder when their own presents would arrive.

"They would ask, `Why don't we get any gifts?'" said Humera, who immigrated from Pakistan in 1987.

"The kids, they don't understand."

So when the mother of five saw an application for the Toronto Star Santa Claus Fund, she signed up immediately.


The program serves the Greater Toronto Area and was established by Star publisher Joseph Atkinson in 1906.


 

WHAT??? Why on earth would she sign her family up to receive Christmas gifts for her kids when they are muslim and do not celebrate Christmas...and why on earth would this charity give them any??
So this means that some little kid whose family DOES celebrate Christmas wont be getting anything because they gave the gifts to muslim children instead, this is wrong, so very wrong

Yes, this is outrageous!  This scenario just shows that Muslims want to benefit from Western lifestyles, but never conform to them.  But the bottom line is that if you remove religion from the pallet, presents are just a cool gift.
