Ask JTF For Motza'ei Rosh Hashana, September 24.
Ari:
Hello Chaim,
Shana Tova. Health and happiness to you and yours for the coming year. I would also like to wish JTF the best with the new fundraising effort. Hopefully I can reach a place where I can make regular contributions to the movement in the coming year. Well, I understand if you are a bit weary at this point in the broadcast because I can see that I'm one of the later questions, but better late than never. I appreciated your advice from last week, as well as that of a few other individuals in the forum, on how I can become more religious as I grow older. This week, Chaim, I was wondering if you could help clarify Judaism's views on life after death for me. Specifically, I was wondering about the Jewish concepts of eternal life as well as Heaven and Hell. What kind of life must one lead to ensure entrance into the world to come? Is Hell a Jewish concept? I believe I've lived a pretty moral life, but then again nobody is perfect and I would like to continue to improve myself as much as possible. Thanks for taking the time and again Happy New Year.
Ari
Vito:
Shalom Chaim, kol tuv
First of all thank you for your kind words about me being too smart for Harvard! I truly appreciate that coming from a man of your stature and wisdom.
I grew up in a predominantly Greek neighborhood, and have many Greek friends, so I have heard all the horror stories commited by the Turks against the Greeks and the genocide of the Christian Armenians. I want to know why this is covered up? Why do we hear nothing of this in school or media? We hear plenty of the Holocaust, perhaps that's because it's nearly impossible to cover up. And it's not only the Greeks and Armenians.... also the Serbians which have been defending themselves from Muslim invasion since the 1300's. Also, I have never heard a single peep of the Lebonese Christian genocide (Baruch Hashem the Israelis stopped it), which happened right around the time I was born! Why doesn't my country, a Christian country, exploit such atrocities?
Many anti-semites I have argued with say "the Jews don't care about the Christians, the Muslims are the peaceful ones, and help the Christians". When I mention the Lebonese genocide, they don't know what I'm talking about... and when I explain that the Americans did nothing, and the Israelis stopped it - they are dumbfounded. My point is, nobody knows about these atrocities against Christians by Muslims, even if their only 25 years old. Why?
Forgive me, I completely forgot how to say "Happy New Year" in Hebrew.. but anyway, Happy New Year! Let's hope this is the year of the Messiah!
Toda Raba,
Vito
P.S - I was trying to say "Thanks for your vote" last week :)
NeverMore:
hi Chaim, and shana tova for you and all Beit Israel.
thanks for answering my questions, it really helps me get deeper and deeper into Judaism.
this week i just wanted to ask about rabbi Meir Kahane's murder- what happened? how was he killed? did he have final words to say? what happened to the murderer? is there a record of the murder (i just dont know anything about it except that it was the first act of el qaeda in the US).
about his son rabbi Binyamin Kahane- was he murdered for being a "Kahane", or was it an occasional drive by shooting act of terror?
thanks.
Gruzinit:
Shana tova Chaim,
Before i get to my question, i just wanna say i've had it with the kiddie-glove treatment of illegal aliens, and this pathetic excuse about them not being able to learn english, but wanting to sponge off our social programs and tax dollars. My parents were born in the republic of georgia, yet also spoke russian, even though the language was not indigenous to the region, the same for hebrew and english, when the later moved to israel the the u.s. Recently i was walking through queens, when i heard some men talking russian, since the area was isolated, i looked up to see russian/ slavic speaking construction workers. Unlike the hispanics, they never made any crude sexual comments or gestures at me,( ironically the illegals know only the most lewd words and phrases) they actually did their work. It's ridiculous that me and my friends no longer feel safe in areas we've known all our lives.
Question: though i agree with your idea to transfer the arabs out of biblical israel, won't this cause a severe financial strain if we pay them to leave as you suggest? Has any other nation ever done this before with successful results?
TheCoon:
Chaim, you've said in past shows that you use the New York public transit system a lot. I've taken the transit a few times in trips to New York and I've seen gaggles of them(mostly blacks) on buses being loud and obnoxious. Have you ever come across blacks, hispanics or muslims who threaten you for your views expressed on television? I can only imagine how outnumbered you are being a sephardic Jew and I've seen how blacks and hispanics act when they get into groups. Thanks in advance and shana tova. :)
Also, if you have time, I have one quick question. I've listened to you show support for Serbs in their war against the muslim nazis, but I just read an article that states Slobodan Milosevic and Saddam Hussein were allied against the US. Milosevic also supported Yasser Arafat. I've yet to hear you speak on Milosevic on either program. He appears to have received great support from the Serb people so I was wondering your opinion on the matter. Thanks! p.s: If you're out of time I'll save this for next week.
