A police recording of the 911 call made after Wayne Carey allegedly assaulted his girlfriend in the restaurant of a Miami hotel last October reveals the chaotic events that led to the former AFL star's downfall.
During the four-minute tape, aired on radio station 3AW today, model Kate Neilson can heard giving a height description of Carey, confirming that he was her boyfriend and was a guest at the hotel.
A security guard is heard saying that Ms Neilson was seriously bleeding after the alleged attack, which took place "just inside" the Azul restaurant at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
The security guard: "We have a lady who has a cut ... on her mouth. She, ah, glass was broken.
"Right now it appears that it was a disturbance between her and a male companion."
Operator: "She was assaulted?"
Security guard: "Yes, she was."
After being prompted by the operator, the security guard estimates Ms Neilson to be aged around 30 and said describes her as conscious and breathing normally.
Operator: "And the man that assaulted her, is he still...?"
Security guard: "We don't know where he is. He left the restaurant."
Operator: "All right, and um ... there's serious bleeding?"
"Yes," the security guard says. The security guard, who later identifies himself as Charles, goes on to describe the alleged attack. "He broke the glass. Like, he hit her with a piece of glass inside her mouth, lip area," he says.
More than two minutes into the tape, a second operator asks if anyone has a description of Ms Neilson's companion, described as a white male.
Ms Neilson can be heard in the background confirming to the security guard that he is a guest at the hotel.
"He is about six foot two?" the security guard asks.
"Six foot four," Ms Neilson says.
The security guard also asks Ms Neilson for her hotel room number. When asked if the man is her husband, she responds: "Boyfriend."
The operator later asks: "He hit her with a bottle?
Security guard: "Ah hold on ... a wine glass."
Carey has been charged with assaulting a public servant, resisting an officer with violence, and aggravated battery.
He is due to face the Miami-Dade County Court on February 15.
