I'm going to have to agree with Rubystars.

This thread is about movies.  Let's just leave it that way and not gang up on Erica.

The Color Purple
I forgot about that movie, genteelgentile! That's one of my favorite movies but I only watch it twice a year because it's emotionally jolting and features a lot of abuse.

The book was very emotional too Erica. I recommend it. It goes into more detail than the movie does but Alice Walker is a very talented author.
I'll buy the book to fill in for the times I don't watch the movie. :) Thanks for the suggestion Rubystars.

You're welcome :)

And Ruby.. ALL of those movies are my favorite. I have a thing for fantasy movies. I even loved "The Chronicles of Narnia- The Lion, the Witch and The Wardrobe." And all of the "Harry Potter" movies.

I haven't seen the Harry Potter movies, but I did love it when Santa Claus gave the kids weapons in Narnia. I had a good chuckle about that scene. :)

I would like to express my sincerest of apologies to Erica... I in no way intended to offend, that certainly was not my intent, I thought discussing the bravery, triumph, courage and heroic life story of of "A-List" dramatic acting talent Mr. Gary Coleman would be uplifting and awe-inspiring, but evidently that was not the case and for that I apologize...

Moving on, here's my Top 10 favorite movies of all-time.... You might notice that none of the movies on my list feature nudity, illicit sexual acts, illicit drug abuse or the kind of behavior that is sending this great nation of ours straight down the toilet. These are all films that can be watched and appreciated by all age groups. These are films that inspire us instead of bringing us down--- drum roll--- Here's my Top Ten....

1. Firehouse Dog-- Good wholesome entertainment children and adults can enjoy

2. The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland- A flick you can feel comfortable watching with the entire family

3. Babe: Pig In The City-- No, this isn't an "adult film", this one is REALLY about a cute and adorable PIG, kids love this flick.

4. Dr. Dolittle-- What can I say, it's a family oriented classic

5. My Dog Skip-- Families just love wholesome movies about dogs, right?

6. Peter Pan-- Although some extremely conservative critics claim this movie might influence some people to become "gay" or "dainty", I don't agree, I think it's simply a wholesome classic for family viewing.

7. Scooby Doo-- Once again, you can't lose with those incredible dog oriented flicks, they always provide wholesome family fun for viewers.

8. Seabiscuit-- Although not about a dog, this one is about the triumph of a horse. No nudity or the kind of stuff that is embarrassing, just good family entertainment.

9. Stuart Little-- Gotta love that mouse!

10. Stuart Little 2-- A rare case of when a sequel matches the integrity of the original movie. You just can't say enough about the cute and clever mouse-- and he's certainly a good role model for today's troubled and perverted youth.

Goodfellas

My biggest problem with Goodfellas is the way that most people misinterpret it.

Goodfellas is not a movie about the Cosa Nostra.  None of the main characters were made men.  Goodfellas is a movie about wannabe mafia thugs.

The real Cosa Nostra acted with restraint and intelligence.  Blood was bad for business.

It irritates me when people assume that Goodfellas is an accurate portrayal of 'real gangsters'.

It may in some respects represent what some low levels of organized crime developed into in the last 20 years. The fact is organized crime of years ago ran by a very strict set of rules which allowed them to run their businesses and not get under the skin of everyday Americans. They were no match for the more ruthless gang operations of today. Sadly the FBI concentrates on whats left of the mafia while the Russian and Columbian mob go almost untouched. I guess it easer dealing with a set aging wannabees than more ruthless people who will kill without the slightest hesitation.

The one by Jerry Bruckheimer, one of the most underated, awesome films I've ever seen, a mans' movie.

My all time favorite movie is It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World. This movie was made back in the 60's and had many of the great actors of the day in it. Its nonstop laughs from start to finish. The movie also brings back pleasent memories for me because it features 62 Dodge Darts in it which was the first car I owned when I learned how to drive.

Good point about GoodFellas, Scriabin, although it is one entertaining film, it did take minor gangsters and make them look like legends.  If anyone is a fan of the Howard Stern Show here, you may have seen the real Henry Hill from time to time, and he's anything from the cool gangster depicted in the film.  Martin Scorsese made a gem out of his book.  Casino is another great Scorsese film, and it's fun to see DeNiro play a Jewish guy.  He also did a great job as a Jewish guy in the great gangster film Once Upon a Time in America, Sergio Leone's last film.
