03.08.08 Serbian Government collapses!!!

BELGRADE -- PM Vojislav KoŇ°tunica has announced today that the conditions for his cabinet to continue work do not exist.
KoŇ°tunica, who is also the leader of the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS), was holding an extraordinary news conference at the seat of the Serbian government in Belgrade when he said that its mandate now needs to be returned to the people.

The prime minister believes that the most rational move would be to schedule the parliamentary elections along the local and provincial votes, called for May 11.

KoŇ°tunica also said that he has called his cabinet to meet on March 10, where the decision to dissolve the government and schedule the new elections will be discussed.

He specified that a lack of a unified position on Kosovo is the reason for the government's collapse.

KoŇ°tunica, who has not formally resigned, said that he informed his coalition partners and the largest opposition party, the Radicals (SRS), about his decision to announce that the cabinet can no longer function.

He specified that Brussels has enabled all its member states to individually recognize Kosovo Albanians' unilateral declaration of independence, which also gave them the green light to trample on the UN Charter, EU's Founding Act and UN Resolution 1244.

KoŇ°tunica said he is convinced that the latest developments will not bring instability to the country, with all its institutions functioning.

Asked why the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) was initialed last year, while he now opposes its signing, KoŇ°tunica said the initialed text guaranteed Serbia's territorial integrity with Kosovo inside its borders, "unlike the situation today".

"After the unilateral declaration and recognition things are different and it would be good if the agreement could be signed in the shape in which it was initialed. It cannot be ratified by all the EU countries individually and those who have recognized Kosovo's independence cannot accept an agreement that says Serbia is a whole state with Kosovo in its borders," KoŇ°tunica explained.

The EU has in January decided not to sing the SAA, demanding full cooperation with the Hague from Serbia.

The government was put together less than a year ago, and is made up of the Democratic Party (DS), the Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS), New Serbia (NS) and G17 Plus.

Ever since the presidential elections on Feb. 3, Serbia’s ruling coalition has been embroiled in a deep crisis over differences over policies on European integration and Kosovo.

KoŇ°tunica‚Äôs DSS said it would support a Serb Radical Party (SRS) resolution in parliament, calling on the EU to ‚Äúclearly and unambiguously‚ÄĚ confirm Serbia‚Äôs territorial integrity, as a condition for further European integration.

The DSS’s coalition partners in the government, the Democratic Party (DS) and G17 Plus, have said that they will not support the resolution, claiming that its aim is not the defense of Kosovo, but putting a halt to European integration.

The prime minister said yesterday that he no longer had confidence in the sincerity of his coalition partners to fight for Kosovo, confirming that the clashes within the government were escalating.

DS whip Nada KolundŇĺija said that early elections were one solution if the ruling coalition‚Äôs aim of European integration had changed.

While Infrastructure Minister and New Serbia leader Velimir Ilić believed that the way out of the crisis was the dismissal of Economy Minister and G17 Plus leader Mlađan Dinkić; G17 Plus said that the problem could be solved by elections.

The SRS have not yet explicitly stated whether they favour elections or are ready to form a new ruling majority with the DSS.

SRS General Secretary Aleksandar Vučić called on the members of the ruling coalition to leave the government if they could not agree on the country‚Äôs future.

The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) has been insisting on early parliamentary elections for some time now since the slow-down in European integration.

Socialist Party of Serbia leader Ivica Dačić called for a government of national unity to be formed, including those parties that shared similar views on national policy.

Clearly two options are being projected.

FIRST: Forget EU. Kosovo is within Serbia  O0

TWO: Forget Kosovo and Serbia. Get lost within EU for few Euro's more  >:(

NATO is testing Russia through Arm Wrestling.  :o

Kostunica is a smart man, he will go down in Serbian history as the man that was almost like Milosevic but changed for the good.
Cedo Jovanovic will take Vuk Brankovic' place in history as the biggest Quisling in Serbian history. He will probably get killed sooner or later.

Seselj is the new Tsar Lazar and Nikolic is the new Obilic.

any disagreements on this view are welcomed.

Now during these hard sitiations when it's necessary to establish our new government the Serbian Radical Party must take the advantages of it.

The best solution will be a coalition between DSS and SRS.

Just ban DS and it's cooperators out of the government and we will have a stabile state again.

Hehehe must I explain everything into details  :P?
I hope NOT ~!~

During the nineties (if it wasn't familiar by YOU) nationalism was tolerated in Serbia.
Cetniks songs on national TV and radio were daily happenings.

People were free during the nineties free to express their national emotions.

Today you are not even "allowed" to wear a Cetnik flag on the streets or shirts of Cetniks leaders.

Do not tell me that you think that the today's circumstances are better than during the nineties.
If you say that you are a Cetnik today people will start to call the police.

Well i come from a Cetnik family, Grand Father was a cetnik in Krajina, I've met Vojvoda Djujic. So we have always worn Cetnik shirt or sang Cetnik songs. Despite what was legal or not. So I've never felt the anti-cetnik vibe of Serbia.

With Nikolic or Seselj we'd be back to the 90s but without milosevic =  AWESOME:D

Well You said "nationalism is back baby".
If I hear nationalism I must immidiatley think of the period from 1990 till 1995.

What was anti Nationalistic about that?  :)

It is logic that nationalism and the nineties are in connection with each others. Because in the beginning of the nineties whe faced the collapse of communism.
And during communism (1941 - 1989) nationalism was fobidden.

I think in ten years time you are going to find out that this unfortunate act was probably cooked up by a few very wealthy Serbs, Albanians and their Elitist friends in Germany, France and America....  This entire tragedy stinks in my opinion like the EU, lead by France, affording "legitimacy" to Yassir Arafat and the PLO.   My two cents...
"‚ÄėVehorashtem/Numbers 33:53‚Äô: When you burn out the Land‚Äôs inhabitants, you will merit to bestow upon your children the Land as an inheritance. If you do not burn them out, then even if you conquer the Land, you will not merit to allot it to your children as an inheritance." - Ovadiah ben Yacov Sforno; Italian Rabbi, Biblical Commentator, Philosopher and Physician.  1475-1550.
