Anti-Zionist and pro-Arab groups are opposing an Australian plan to congratulate Israel on its 60th anniversary.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s motion saluting the Jewish state is expected to be seconded Wednesday by opposition leader Brendan Nelson. Some 400 Jewish dignitaries have been invited to parliament for the proceedings by the Israeli Embassy, which initiated the idea.

But opposition to the motion, the text of which has yet to be released, is mounting with a coalition of anti-Zionist and pro-Arab groups planning a media campaign and demonstrations.

In a letter to be published in newspapers Wednesday, opponents to the motion say it is “an affront to our nation's dignity and self-respect. It is most offensive to the Palestinian community in Australia.”

The letter, a copy of which was obtained by JTA, says the “unprecedented” motion “honors a foreign country's independence while it is violating the rights of the indigenous people, occupying their land and breaching international law.

“It completely ignores the now well-documented historical record of Israel's ethnic cleansing that began with the 1948 al-Nakba – the Palestinian catastrophe of dispossession and displacement – and which is continuing to this day.”

Leading the campaign against the motion is the Independent Voices,Australian Jewish  Australian Friends of Palestine, Women for Palestine, Australians for Justice and Peace in Palestine and the Palestinian Community Association of Victoria.

What should be done to Jewish leftist nazis hamas followers?

Yeah.

The (supposed) anti-zionist Jews are lead by a grub called anthony lowenstein (Y'S). He is HATED by Australian Jewery. The feedback his blog recieves from Aussie Jews consists of abuse and threats. He's the left media's token ("look- this Jew opposes zionism") kyke. His group consists of him and about 12 people. The rest are the usual bunch of muSSlim jihadists and leftist 'rent-a-crowd types'. They represent less than 2% of Australia.

You'll find those same groups and same people behind every anti-American gathering too.

Australian government applauds Israel
Big News Network.com     Wednesday 12th March, 2008

The new Australian government has congratulated Israel on its 60th anniversary, describing it as a 'robust democracy' and a 'custodian of freedom.'

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, who replaced long-serving John Howard, in early December, has wasted little time in renewing his predecessor's close ties with the Jewish state.

The strength of the motion put to the Australian parliament on Wednesday was underlined by the bipartisan support of the Australian opposition Liberal and National parties.

'Israel is a cause for hope,' Rudd told the parliament.

'Israel and the state of Israel is the custodian of the most fragile and yet most powerful of human emotions, that is hopeful belief in the freedom of man, freedom of speech, freedom of religion and freedom of assembly,' Opposition Leader Brendan Nelson said.

'No Australian who believes in the dignity of man, of freedom and democratic principles, should ever allow, through neglectful indifference, to allow Israel to be a stranger. To do so would be to diminish ourselves and our own security,' he added.

Whilst the Australian government has saluted Israel, there were elements of the Australian people that were sharply critical of Wednesday's motion, including members of the Australian Labor Party, and a number of trade unions.

Protests however were minimal and both Rudd and Nelson, together with a large number of parliamentarians toasted Israel into the afternoon at a special function hosted by the Israeli embassy in Canberra.

For what it's worth I think Australia is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. It's a great ally to the United States (and hopefully to Israel as well). I'd love to visit one day and see Steve Irwin's zoo and Ayers rock.
