CONSERVATIVE TRUTH 04/14/08
Obama, the Snobbish Messiah
By Tom Barrett
[email protected]

Ronald Reagan said, “It isn’t that Liberals are ignorant. It’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.” He might have been talking about Barack Obama’s speech to rich San Francisco liberals last week in which he managed to alienate Christians, hunters, the whole state of Pennsylvania, and both political parties with his false “facts.”

For a guy who claims to be a unifier, who says he cares about Americans, and who imagines himself to be something of a messiah who can cure all our ills, he sure insults a lot of people. Tens of millions of people in just one evening, in fact.

Reporters have been having a field day with this. They can’t decide whether his remarks were condescending, demeaning, belittling, insulting, elitist or just plain old Washington insider snobbishness. I’ll be fair and say they’re all correct.

The “Change” agent has revealed himself to be more of the same - just like most of our national politicians. He looks down on regular people, thinks he’s better than us, and is certain in his heart that he knows what’s good for us far better than we do. Kind of like when Britain had a great colonial empire. They felt they knew much more than the natives, so they should rule them. Obama and all the politicians like him think they are so much smarter than us that they feel they have an obligation to take care us (which, of course, means controlling us). After all, we obviously can’t take care of ourselves.

What caused all this controversy? Obama has been hanging around Pennsylvania a lot lately. Something about Hillary having a big lead over him. So he went around the state telling Pennsylvanians what great people they are and how much he admires them. You know, the usual sincere politician stuff.

When he got to San Francisco, he told rich elitist liberal Democrat snobs at a private, very expensive fund raiser, what he really thought of the good people of Pennsylvania. He thought he was with like-minded fellow travelers, and could speak his mind freely. Unfortunately for him, a patriot managed to sneak into the affair and secretly tape Obama, the Snobbish Messiah, as he described the “real” Pennsylvania.

It turns out that (in Obama’s twisted mind) they are “bitter” and “frustrated.” Because of all these negative emotions, the people of the small towns of Pennsylvania have been forced to “cling to guns or religion” as a way to “explain their frustration.”

Wow. And I’ll bet those poor, bitter Pennsylvanians thought they were “clinging” to their rifles so they wouldn’t drop them while they were out hunting. They’ve probably convinced themselves that they actually like hunting or target shooting. But Obama, the Snobbish Messiah knows better. He knows that the only reason anyone would cling to a gun would be that they were frustrated because Washington has not come to their towns and solved all their problems for them. After all, isn’t that what government is for?

And how about those Christians? Turns out they’re bitter and frustrated as well. If government would only take care of all their needs, they wouldn’t need Christianity. But since Uncle Sam has failed to provide them cradle to grave food, clothing, shelter, medical care and all those other things promised to them by the Constitution, the poor pitiful things have had to turn to (shudder!) religion.

They’ve deluded themselves into believing that their relationship with God has made them happy. They actually think that their lives are better because they learn how to live better lives according to the Bible in their churches. And they imagine that fellowship with other believers is a positive thing. Fortunately, Obama knows better.

Wait a minute! Didn’t Obama tell us just a few weeks ago that he had “followed the Christian tradition” (whatever that means) for the last twenty years? Yes, I’m sure he did. He started following it right about the time he decided to become a politician. So why is he now putting down the religion of the vast majority of Americans? Because deep down in his little elitist heart, Obama, the Snobbish Messiah, is certain that religion is the “opiate of the masses.” And he knows from personal experience that drugs are bad. But not to worry. Messiah Obama is dedicated to saving us all from ourselves.

Obama’s words:  “(People) have been beaten down so long, and they feel so betrayed by government, and when they hear a pitch that is premised on not being cynical about government, then a part of them just doesn't buy it.” “It's not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”

It wasn’t surprising, either, when Hillary and McCain took on the Snobbish Messiah. Hillary blasted him. “The people of faith whom I know don't cling to religion because they're bitter. In fact, they embrace their faith because it gives them so much in return.” And, “Pennsylvanians don't need a President who looks down on them. They need a President who stands up for them, who fights for them, who works hard for your futures, your jobs, your families. As I travel around Pennsylvania, I meet people who are resilient, who are optimistic, who are positive.”

It’s terrible to say, but I have to agree with her. Obama didn’t have a clue about his subject. He claimed that for the last 25 years jobs have been lost in Pennsylvania and that they are never coming back. He said that unemployment in the state was terrible. But the inconvenient fact is that unemployment in the state is almost exactly the same as the national average. And it is about one third the rate it was 25 years ago!

In truth, Pennsylvania is nothing short of an economic miracle. The old steel and manufacturing jobs are certainly gone (he got that right, at least), but they’ve been replaced with better, higher paying technology jobs. (See Mary Mostert’s insightful article on this subject in this week’s issue at www.ConservativeTruth.org.)

Philadelphia Democrat Mayor Michael Nutter was incensed by Obama’s speech. “I've not heard any of that kind of conversation during the course of this campaign here in Pennsylvania. I mean, that's not what people are talking about. People are talking about… real issues and real concerns. They're concerned about public safety. They worry about their education of their children…So I don't know where this is coming from. I don't know what would possess Senator Obama to say this…I know he took a six-day bus tour, but clearly he does not understand what's going on here in Pennsylvania.”

When he was criticized for his secret speech, Obama first said that he regretted not the remarks, but the way that he phrased them. He said he didn’t phrase his thoughts well. When that didn’t work, he claimed that he meant to say that bitterness and frustration makes small-town people base their votes on other issues “such as guns and religion.”

That doesn’t fly either. Look back at his actual words. There’s absolutely nothing there to suggest that he was talking about voting. He clearly stated that bitterness and frustration make Pennsylvanians “cling to guns and religion.” He also fails to explain his comment that they distrust people who “aren’t like them” (a blatant play of the race card).

Obama's speech was “remarkable and extremely revealing,” according to a McCain spokesman. “It shows an elitism and condescension towards hardworking Americans that is nothing short of breathtaking,” said Steve Schmidt. “It is hard to imagine someone running for President who is more out of touch with average Americans.”

Obama the Snobbish Messiah and his liberal friends are so enlightened! And the rest of us are so – well, unenlightened. Obviously, America needs this man to save us…

Obama’s Empty Formula For 2008
By Christopher G. Adamo
Wyoming cattleman J. Randall “Randy” Stevenson, a vocal advocate of American agriculture and American enterprise, warns that this nation is “increasingly outsourcing its sovereignty while importing its dependency.” In these few words, he encapsulates the real challenges facing America, which ultimately eclipse any threat from abroad.

Charlton Heston Made History
By Doug Patton
There are few of the old stars left in Hollywood, men who loved their country enough to show her the respect, service and loyalty she deserves. Charlton Heston was one of those stars.

The Phony Free-Trade Agreement
By Cliff Kincaid
The White House wants a quick vote in favor of a “U.S.-Colombia Trade Promotion Agreement,” saying it will help U.S. business, bolster the anti-communist government of Colombia, and deal a setback to the anti-American ruler of Venezuela. However, you don’t have to read past the preamble to see that it puts the U.S. further down the road of sovereignty-destroying “hemispheric integration.”

Obama Ignores Pennsylvania’s Economic Miracle
By Mary Mostert, Analyst, www.bannerofliberty.com
Barack Obama created a small fire-storm in presidential politics recently by stating that small town residents in Pennsylvania and other Midwest states have done “nothing” in the past 25 years to replace jobs that “have been gone now for 25 years.” In just four short sentences Obama managed to insult leaders of both political parties and to fan the flames of racism while taking a slap at religious voters.

Global Food Fights
By Alan Caruba
It takes a decent respect for the obvious truth to admit that mankind has no control over the climate. What is occurring, however, based on actual and anecdotal information, is a trend toward global cooling. Between rising food costs driven by an environmental agenda and real, not imagined, climate change, the word famine is going to be heard more often.

Why Gore? Why Not?
By Phil Perkins
I never thought I’d have anything good to say about Al “Forrest” Gore, let alone that he looks far and away like the most attractive Democrat candidate for president. For Gore to look good is revealing of how pathetic the top two current contenders really are. But to me, he also looks good because he may ultimately be the most beatable.

Journalist Asks Bush to Protect Iraqi Christians
By Cliff Kincaid
On the eve of the Pope’s visit to the U.S., journalist Raymond Arroyo has taken President Bush to task for his policy toward the plight of Christians in Iraq. Arroyo, anchor of the show, “The World Over,” has aggressively questioned Bush about some of the issues we (Accuracy in Media) raised in a recent column.

Ignorant or Just Old-Fashioned Stupid?
By J.J. Jackson
Well, they are at it again down in Washington and on the campaign trail. The pandering for votes continues and as Congressmen, Senators and presidential hopefuls without enough candlepower to fire a few brain cells are trying to find out why gas prices are so gosh darn high. Their target? Evil, wicked, naughty “Big Oil.”

Barack Obama’s flip-flops, politicians creating problems to be solved, life-tenured liberal judges and Jimmy Carter, and will “global warming” go the way of the “ozone hole” and acid rain?
