Happy Isru Chag!

23 Nissan, 5768

The Staff of The JTF Forum wishes everyone a Happy Isru Chag (The day following closing Yom Tov.).

Moroccan Jews celebrate today as Maimouna, a time for family get togethers and picnics with chametz. Iraqi Jews greet each other with the blessing "Santak Chudhra". The dh of the above greeting is pronounced as in the th in "the" and the ch is a chet. This greeting means means "May you have a green year.". They say it while hitting each other with a green leafy vegetable such as lettuce. I had my dad say it and hit me with lettuce tonight and then I ate it.

Tonight is The 8th Night of The Omer totaling one week and one day.

The rest of Nissan is joyous as well and we don't resume saying Tachanun until 2 Iyar.

Isru Chag refers to the day after each of the three Jewish Pilgrimage festivals: Pesach (Passover), Shavuot and Sukkot.
