MK Beilin: Recall Gillerman For Carter Remark
(IsraelNN.com) MK Yossi Beilin (Meretz) called on Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni Friday to recall Israel's Ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Gillerman, after Gillerman said former U.S. President Jimmy Carter was a "bigot" who had "blood on his hands."
"Gillerman has the right to criticize Carter," Beilin said, "but Israel has an eternal debt to a man who saved the blood of many Israelis when he brought peace with Egypt with his own hands. It is unthinkable that a senior Israeli representative would utter such words of madness and stay on in his position."
MK Tzvi Handel (NU) responded to Beilin's attack by calling upon Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni to back Gillerman. "Beilin, who led delusional peace processes in the past decades, is the last person who can sermonize to a person who says the truth," he said. Handel added that Carter is a "clear case of an Israel hater."
