$10 a gallon gas
« on: April 28, 2008, 11:53:18 PM »
I saw an article on Drudge that states that oil could hit $200 a barrel over the next few years and that the average cost here in the states could top $10 a gallon.  I think I'm gonna rent "The Road Warrior" and take notes.

It could... but when anyone tries to predict the price of anything... they are talking out of their a-s-s

I don't think it will rise to $10 but you never know.

Exactly. Every time we put gas in our cars we're giving our money to the enemies. (the Arabs)

Most economic experts have concluded that at $4/gal. our economy will completely collapse.

The expense of gasoline and diesel are already at the stage at which the average American can no longer afford fuel and food.

Each incremental increase in fuel costs is passed down to the American public in higher costs for all goods and services, while incomes, salaries, and jobs are actually decreasing.

Meanwhile, the Globalist/Internationalists are fast at work sending more American jobs and production to Colombia, headquarters for the Medellin Drug Cartel, Hezbollah Terrorist cells, and Marxist revolutionaries, who will now be freely entering the U.S. from our southern border.

"You doin' a heck of a job, W!"

Man MassuhD...  where are these experts???? Are they the same ones that predicted our economy will collapse with $3.50/gas?  I'm already paying over $4.00 a gas here in the socialist republic of California. Our economy CAN absorb $10/gas but it would stifle growth significantly, and probably create a prolonged recession to adapt.

THERE IS NO FOOD SHORTAGE!!!!!!   Its a lie propagated by our leftist media.  We are paying more on selected commodities because speculators are driving up prices... looking for the next big bubble.. since real estate has collapsed, and Gold has cooled off.  But its still barely effecting the average American.  The CPI food index has gone up 4% in the last year... which translates to about an extra $100.00 per person.

I certainly hope gas goes up to $10.00 a gallon. That way everybody can walk to work. That might help with the obesity problem this country has.

The smart thing to do is to just attack saudi Arabia with Nuclear weapons and just take all the oil fields for ourselves. Gas would then be cheap. Its not like those muslim naxi jew haters deserve to live anyways.

Our economy will descend into a full blown depression at $4/gal and above.

Quite literally almost every facet of our economy will come to a complete stop.

Rioting, protests, and civil upheaval will occur long before the price at the pumps nears $10/gal.

Considering that we already are entrenched in our Iraq/Afghanistan forward base, I would think that the only option would be to mobilize all able bodied men and women, and "finish the job" -- Iran, Saudi Arabia.

Maybe even have to go south into Venezuela and Mexico.

Either way we lose!

Thats just not true.  A recession is caused by a bubble bursting... like Nasdaq, or the real estate market, or adjusting to a peacetime economy.  Not by $4 a gallon gas.  High gas prices have had an effect on the economy, but its very slight compared to the overall direction of the market.  Also, since the price increase has been slow, and not a shock, the economy is adjusting to it quite well.

I still see us entering a recession, but its because of the real estate bubble bursting and nothing else.  I'm guessing it will start in April, and probably last 1/2 a year.  Thats just an educated guess... I could be wrong.

THERE IS NO FOOD SHORTAGE!!!!!!

I do not remember such predictions. I think they predicted that at $5 a gallon there would be a significant drop in demand though. Already at close to $4 demand is down a little bit.

It is true that we will always produce a lot of food but imagine if gas was $10 a gallon.  It would not be worth it for truckers to drive anymore. Food would be produced in California but how would it get to NYC?   There then would be a food shortage in NYC and there would be riots.

In terms of saving money in these times of high gas prices it is best to live and work in a major american city where you do not need a car. Your gas budget will not go up since you never had a gas budget to start with.  If you live in a rich suburb and drive an SUV you will be in for a major hurting though.

Yes, gas is an inelastic product, meaning its price has very little effect on demand... which is why demand has only slightly been reduced by the high prices.   However, there is no question that $10 a gallon gas would slow the economy tremendously... as money goes towards gas, it will crowd out other economic activity.  And transportation costs will make selling goods much harder, and more expensive.

But... at least it gets people into looking into alternatives.  We gotta get off oil.  Its absolutely killing us.
