Power Company Cuts Cable that Announces the Sabbath
07:46 Jan 14, '07 / 24 Tevet 5767

( The Vishnitz Hareidi religious neighborhood in Haifa is fuming at the Israel Electric Corp. for cutting a cable that supplies power for a bell announcing that the Sabbath is about to begin.

The private cable is attached to the power company’s poles, giving it the right to cut it down although it is used by the residents every Friday before the Sabbath. "The Electric Corp. came before the Sabbath, when almost no one was outside, because they were afraid that we would not let them take it down," one resident told the Hebrew website NFC. "We will not let this pass quietly."
