there is actually a box of little black sweets called negroids or something, can't find it though, prob have the name wrong.  I think some people used them to clear their throats for singing.

And they are very old sweets. They wouldn't get away with selling them nowadays - though I did see a relative had a pack of them hidden away!! No idea where he got them.

Remember one thing, the decades these cartoons were made, America was at a better time.  People believed in the sanctuary of marriage between man and woman,  they brought up well respected children and terrific neighborhoods.  And then something happened the 1960's.  And Liberalism which is the kissing cousin of Communism budded into American society.  And now everything is monitored.  You can no longer tell people anything with out someone being "offended".
