Once someone has a mutation you can't really just go in and erase it after the fact. It's in every cell of their body (or a portion of the cells in mosacism). I'm not sure how you could undo something like Down syndrome when it affects the facial feature development, muscle tone, heart development, brain development, etc.

Natural conception will never allow for them to be eliminated. What they mean is pre-implantation diagnosis, which kills embryos that are found to be defective in embryos grown outside the womb to the 8 cell stage,  and removing the cell for the diagnostic procedure also carries a risk of birth defects.

God already gave people a way to make children, and there's nothing wrong with the old fashioned way. Some people do have disabilities but we need to embrace and care for those people and show them support and understanding rather than trying to eliminate them completely.

I know I really shouldn't try to speak logically to ben m. I thought maybe I could inform him the whole idea of eugenics is bull excrement but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

In my experience anyone who called themselves a free thinker tended to be very anti-religious. I don't think you can have true free thought unless you're following God because denying God will not help someone to achieve true wisdom. Atheism is a false freedom.

It depends. Some of them I'm sure are honorable, honest, hard working people. They should be honored and respected for their service. I do have a big problem with promotions being given out through apefirmative action (I've heard this happens even in the military). Some of them are just gang members who join to get military training.

I don't have a problem with it in a time of true national need, but I think if it can be avoided and victory can be achieved without it, that's better.

That's such a good question that I'm a bit frustrated I don't have a ready answer for you. I usually read fiction on my free time. The last time I read an actual history book was in college, and that seemed to have a heavy left wing bias in it. It's easy to research history online though. There are sites dedicated to documenting the Holocaust, Civil War, etc.

Have you thought of going to medical school?  The profession sorely needs people with moral values.  Whereas I may be more of a liberal here, I sometimes feel like an arch ci servative there.  Thank God, I allowed myself to be receptive to certain JTF teachings

I've thought about it but I don't want to work with body fluids like blood (not because blood itself grosses me out, but because of viruses that could be in it) or be exposed to multi-drug resistant bacteria in a hospital setting.

A doctor also has to treat patients with respect and caring, or at least ideally should. I'd be afraid that despite my best intentions, I might give substandard care to certain races. Not consciously, but on a subconscious level. That wouldn't be fair to them as patients.

I have an interest in genetic conditions and I like to watch shows on Discovery health about them, etc. I like watching things like Mystery Diagnosis, various specials on people with special needs, etc. and I am just amazed at how those stories have so many doctors trying to convince people with rare conditions that it's all in their head just because they don't have something common. They don't treat people like human beings if the case is too difficult to diagnose quickly. So yes I agree that there needs to be a lot more morality. Also when my aunt was dying of cancer the staff from hospice was just horrriic. One nurse told us that if she fell on the floor to just leave her there since she was dying anyway.

I was under the impression that the EU loved him much better than they did Bush, because their leaders are a bunch of socialists. I think he's hurting US relations with Israel though.

true.in any case what novels do you read? who are your favorite authors?

I've read a lot of Isaac Asimov (the robot novels are awesome, Prelude to Foundation is one of the best), and I've read most "Warriors" books by Erin Hunter (they're young adult targeted, but have pretty complex stories in them). Along the same lines I also liked A series of unfortunate events (all 13). I loved Frank Herbert's Dune series the best. I liked a lot of books by Mercedes Lackey too, and I thought the Acorna series was pretty good by Anne McCaffrey. I like some old stuff like H.G. Wells, etc. Farenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury is a good book that I recommend everyone read.

oh so you love sf.same as me.i read recently the twenty sixth annual of the best science fiction of the year'it is a must for every sf reader.i also read the time machine of H.G. WELLS and i started to read the war of the world which unfortunately i  wasn't able to finish ( i don't have much patience for e-books).i also just finished the residen evil movies novelization of keith r.a.decandido and i ordered from amazon the book zero hour of S.D.perry.and i started to read to today the book mystics of the christian tradition by steven fanning as an e-book.

I like science fiction and fantasy but I've read other types of books too. I liked the Earth's Children series by Jean Auel although some parts of it I didn't like.
