I was working on math this morning and working at the store all afternoon and night until 10pm. I'm here now though. I can't stay away from here for long! :)

Yes, noticed this also. For the last week, in fact. I don't know why. Most of the people on the forum are usually guests. The number of guests is down and hence the total is down. So the question is why do we have fewer guests. Who are the guests?

Shalom,

Maybe because we have so many Jews and the High Holidays and Sukkot today our numbers are so low.

I think that's what it is.  I wonder if the forum should be left open on Shabbat and Jewish holidays for our gentile members.  I've been noticing that our lowest points tend to be on Saturday nights after the forum is back on, and it stays slow until Sunday.  Also after the holidays there tends to be little traffic.

I enjoy knowing the forum is down on my Shabbat. It prevents me from wanting to know what is 'happening' on the forum. That sorta blows the whole meaning of Shabbat. I think it is good from a spiritual and religious standpoint.

After a long meaningful Shabbat I often wait until Sunday afternoon before I loose my Shabbat glow...

I think whether the forum was running or not on Shabbat, I wouldn't go on.  However, I can imagine that some people would be tempted to at least look at read, if not post.  So maybe it isn't such a good idea to keep the forum open on Shabbat.

I agree with you. The majority of members are gentile. I think that closing the forum periodically (and it stays closed for more than 24 hours, which is an overkill, I think) really breaks the momentum of individual reading habits. People start reading other forums and forget to come back.

I think it's respectful of the Jewish religion to leave the forum down at certain times and I don't have a problem with that, although it is hard sometimes waiting for it to come back up!

I don't know if this will change later (it's ok if it does) but Gentile members can go into the chat room on Shabbat and other times when the forum is down.

As a "gentile" believer, I would vote for that. I know that I found this website by a google search. I had a hard time reading it for information when I had the time because my schedule times. I have found this site to be incredibly informative and helpful. I have learned a lot, and I am still learning. I really appreciate getting the information that I couldn't normally get from the biased media. My husband said that the radio shows are talking about more and more people turning their news channels off to get their infomration from the internet. This might be why Obama wants to have governmental control of the internet if he gets elected. In fact, I have been passing along a lot of the information about Obama to help inform other fellow Americans. In short, I think it would be a good consideration.

The closing down of the forum has a negative effect on our numbers for sure...
We must find a way to amend this problem for all our members to feel welcome and be able to go on at anytime, there must be a solution somehow!

Numbers only 72/25 now.

May be the negative impact of recession / economic collapse or gloomy apprehensions in coming elections?

It should not happen.

People that keep shabbat are not going to be thinking about using the internet anyway!

Most people -prefer- new activity.

I think muman is an exception in prefering to know that nothing is going on.

I am fine with logging on and seeing lots of new activity. That's healthy for the movement.

I keep shabbat, but because of the time zones , by the time shabbat goes out (which is in the evening), the forum is still closed for another 7 hours.

How about having a link saying
"This forum is closed for jews.
But gentiles can -click here-  and continue to the forum."
"

any jews that did so would do so in shame! and they are breaking shabbat anyway being on the internet. no doubt they'd be checking email for example.

It would have to be closed for 48 hours for each holyday and Shabbat to take care of all the time zones, because people read this forum all over the world. I am not in the US, for example, so my hours don't overlap with the East Coast Shabbat. But if you are really strict and keep it closed for 48 hours (to make sure that the Shabbat goes around the globe) then you risk losing too many readers, especially at this crucial time. But if you only close it for the Shabbat times on the East Coast, then you are not being consistent anyway. I vote for keeping the forum open at all times.

it's the bad economy..lots of layoffs.

can have a page that says gentiles click here..
jews shouldn't be online it's shabbat.

it's not perfect e.g. due to time zones, but it's something.

Another big thing that could be done...

Put links to the videos clearly on the website
Embedded videos perhaps, may look better.

Chaim's videos are a BIG crowd puller

AskJTF is really for the more devoted.

The problem I think is when users can't access the forum, after several days, they tend to not come back. Most of our gentile members don't know when the Jewish holidays are, so for most of them its a crap shoot as to when they will be able to access the forums and when they will not be able to access the forums. They know they probably can't get on during the Sabbath, but other holidays for the most part for them, just seem to pop up and if your a gentile that can be frustrating. Think of it this way, when you don't update your website, users tend not to come back. It's a perplexing problem since this is a Jewish forum and it should be closed for the sabbath and holidays, but at the same time we don't want to lose our gentile support.

i think we need a resurgence of JTF videos on youtube again..it's been awhile and nobody seems to be looking for us anymore.

Agree!
I have said this before on other occasions... something must be worked if JTF is going to build enough support and become a mass movement
