Israeli Baseball League
« on: February 26, 2007, 05:53:11 PM »
Starting this year there is going to be an Iserali baseball league.  There are going to be 6 teams and start playing this year.  What do you think about this?

wow! I agree with Chaim so much on this..

Worshipping athletes...so true...what a waste of time and does seem like idolotry.

I thought that football player who declined the NFL to go to Afganistan (Pat Tillman) was righteous to do so.

Even though his life was wasted by friendly fire, his heart was in the right place.

Worshipping athletes as a national passtime is juvenile waste of time for imebeciles.

I think it is cool to have Israeli athletic leagues but hopefully they won't take on the scope of American sports.

How could someone only specializes in hitting a ball and be so worshipped and praised and talked about?

I think that people who think that watching sports are idiots is an idiot themselves.  There is nothing wrong with it.

I don't think that watching sports is wrong at all.

In fact I like the UFC a lot.  Mostly because it is not nearly as corrupt as pro-boxing, they test them for roids, the salaries aren't huge, and they have to be in awesome physical condition.

but I don't understand why grown people go so ape-s#it for for pro atheletes (posters, trading cards, memorizing elaborate statistics from 1950 all the nostalgia etc...) or how they let the wins/losses of their team affect their mood so much.

It's the media worship and the attention to their personal lives and the fact that they are considered the role models of society.

If their salaries were a lot less and they were seen as human beings I might like it a little more.

Ben Oni, thats quite sad don't you think?
Its starting to become a trend for celebrities to call their kids random objects. Apple, tribute, bluebell, cupcake etc have all been taken.

Well, I know in Japan they have non-Japanese players in that league, so they can have non-jewish players there.

Are they ethiopian jews? A lot of them represent Israel in sporting competions. It'll be sad if Israel starts to turn into America especially with its shvartza problems. Does it have high crime statistics?

Joe - Not to get off topic but what do you think of the new stadium they are building for the Mets?  I grew up very close to Shea and feel kind of attached to it.
As far as the Israeli baseball league -
I think people enjoy the sport most when they can relate to the players.
I would prefer our baseball players to be American.
I hate when a baseball player has to have a translator to do an interview.
I'm going to check out the link to the Israeli league - thanks Sarah  :)

Sports i believe has become twisted but only on terms of its managment, stratergies and objectives. It is no longer Sport as in keeping fit. Its watching it whilst stuffing your face on the sofa.

Cosmokramer, Black "rough" sportsmen are excellent at sports and i would rather they stick to that instead of mingling into other jobs etc. They have to do something, they might as well play sport.

Well, bullcat, I still live close to Shea and I think that it's about time that the Mets will have a new stadium.  Shea is falling apart and you take your life in your hands when you go to the bathrooms there.  I just hope that the new stadium won't have those kind of problems.  I think that sarah should stop sitting in front of her computer and get out of the house once in a while and stop complaining about my posts.

I go past Shea stadium each day and it really doesn't look all that bad from the outside. Its been many years since I have been inside so I will take your word about it being in bad shape. I am watching the new stadium go up each day and to be honest I am not impressed. It looks small and I was really hoping to see New York finally get a covered stadium. As far as life in your hands unfortunately the same animals will be in attendance in the new stadium. For me it will be sad to see Shea taken down a few years from now it was one of the last surviving buildings from the 64,65 New York Worlds Fair.
