Retaliatory Hamas rockets launched from the Gaza Strip have killed an Israeli man in the southern town of Netivot, reports say. The man was killed Saturday when rockets hit civilian areas in the city, medics told Ynet, a local Israeli news service. Earlier reports had claimed the victim was a woman.
According to the Magen David Adom, Israel's equivalent of the Red Cross, the strike wounded another four people.
The rockets are believed to have been fired by the Hamas movements following a massive Israeli air strike on the Gaza Strip, which killed at least 230 Palestinians and wounded 800 others on Saturday.
World powers have called for an immediate end to violence in the Gaza Strip.
Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak, however, warned in a televised news conference that "the operation will go on and be intensified as long as necessary."
The Saturday onslaught came after a six-month truce between Israel and the Hamas movement expired on December 19.
