'Stop Gaza attacks for new ceasefire'
« on: December 29, 2008, 07:57:36 PM »
A top Hamas official rules out any talk of a new ceasefire with Israel unless all missile strikes on Gaza stop and border crossings open.
"Stop all kinds of aggression, open all (crossings), stop all the violence against the people," deputy head of Hamas' politburo Moussa Abu Marzouk said in an interview with The Associated Press in Damascus.

Abu Marzouk also vowed that the Palestinian Hamas resistance movement will not give in and it is prepared to encounter any Israeli ground incursion.

"We are going to defend ourselves, defend our people and defend our land," he noted.

The Hamas deputy chief highlighted that any party keen on mediating a ceasefire accord should take some responsibility to see that it is implemented by Israel.

He also hoped that an emergency summit meeting later this week to deal with the Gaza situation would send a very clear message to Israel to stop its aggression.

At least 345 Palestinians have lost lives and 1550 others sustained injuries since Israel unleashed its fierce bombing campaign on the Gaza Strip on Saturday.

Israel has made it clear its military offensive was just beginning and has vowed it would destroy every building used by Hamas - who controls the impoverished and overcrowded area.
