New round of bird flu in China?
« on: January 18, 2009, 09:12:44 PM »
A second person has died of bird flu this year in northern China, in what seems to be another round of the dangerous infectious disease.
The latest Chinese bird flu victim who died Saturday was a woman from the Jinan city of northern China's Shandong province, the Chinese Health Ministry said late Sunday.

Another woman had died earlier this month from the same virus in Beijing. She had apparently contacted ducks in a neighboring province.

The number of people who have died from the virus since 2003 has now reached 22.

China has the world's largest poultry population and has apparently been very serious in fighting to contain H5N1, the bird flu virus.

H5N1 does not spread easily to humans but scientists fear it could cause a worldwide epidemic if developed by a mutation.

Maybe if they didn't eat absolutely every animal and insect in the Guangdong province, then this kind of stuff wouldn't happen.
