Arabs attack Hillel at York Univeristy in Toronto

Message from one of the students there:
I am writing you this message today to say that I am so proud to see each and every one of you standing up for what's right and supporting Israel on campus.
Never have I been more proud to be an Israel activist on campus.

I am also writing this message for another reason though.
As many of you have heard or witnessed, today the unthinkable happened at our Hillel Lounge...

The events of today have never in the history of Hillel at York (as far as we can remember) happened before, and must NEVER happen again.

Today, in the late afternoon, while people were going about their daily routine in Hillel- resting, relaxing, studying, holding press conferences, etc, a group of over one hundred pro-Palestinian thugs gathered outside the Hillel office, some covering their faces with Keffiyah's, chanting hateful statements and using intimidation to instill fear in the eyes of every Jew on campus.

The group made it utterly impossible for anyone to leave the Hillel lounge, or to enter, and the students inside were trapped, fearing for their safety and well being, in a place that was supposed to be the ONLY refuge for a Jew on campus.

The students inside were sitting ducks, and no body could prevent the situation from escalating. The rioters got more and more riotous with every passing moment, and the safety of the students inside was compromised.

The police were called and a group of officers was needed to evacuate the Hillel Lounge... In a line all of the students inside of Hillel were escorted out, through the crowds of their enemies, to safety...

The reason I am sharing this event is so that everyone, Jewish or not, recognizes the threat we face on our campus,
when the only safe haven for Jewish students is evacuated, due to hords of violent, anti-semitic people, we realize that there is a problem...

We WILL NOT and MUST NOT be intimidated by the hateful remarks we have shouted at us...

The rally for tomorrow will NOT be cancelled, in fact, we will be out in full force, showing our friends on the other side that they DO NOT scare us, and that the event today did nothing but make us PROUDER and STRONGER than ever before...

Please encourage your friends, relatives, and teachers to come out and wear pride on their sleeves,
You are Brave when the only person who knows you are scared, is yourself...

I thank you all for your determination and applaud your bravery in this time of conflict...

Dear Friends,

Tensions on campus have risen to an all-time high as anti-Israel rhetoric has turned into blatantly anti-Semitic attacks on innocent students. Today, a large crowd of over 100 'anti-Israel' activists surrounded the Hillel lounge in the Student Centre, banging on the doors with rage and chanting insulting slogans. In doing so, they were attempting to intimidate us and deny Jewish students the right to congregate safely. As campus security was not able to calm the situation, Metro Toronto
Police were called to protect the students in the Hillel lounge. Following their recommendation, the Hillel lounge was forced to close.

This marks a new level of Anti-Semitic violence at York which must not go unanswered.

Tomorrow the same students who threatened Jewish students at the Hillel lounge will be holding an anti-Israel rally in Vari Hall.

Please join us at 2pm in Vari Hall on Thursday. We must stand up and take back our campus! Join us as we rally to show
we are proud to be Jewish students. Please wear blue and white and bring your Israeli flags.
