Have you ever tried port wine?
« on: February 13, 2009, 03:17:14 PM »
I have tried it before a time and I have to admit, that I like it althrough it is very sweet and strong.

I think it is the only sweet wine, that I like.

It is manufactured by adding brandy to half processed wine. In earlier time the sailors drunk it, because it stays long time drinkable even if it is not in corked bottles.

For the Jews here, it tastes a little bit similar to kiddush wine.

My Dad used to make that stuff in our basement, he said it was easier to make than other types.

It was just TOO sweet for my tastes, I'm a Cabernet kinda guy.

Usually I prefer dry, but fruity red wines from Bordeaux.

How much of this made your dad? Was it for retail or for your own needs?

Im guessing about 50 gallons.  It was for him and his friends.  It was very 'bathtub' if you know what I mean.

There is a dry white wine from Hungary. The name is "Graf Karoly" (Count Karoly)

It is very good. Specially if you serve it together with fish.

Perhaps you know it.

Red wine from Hungary I didn't like so much.

Vendetta, JTF fellow, you live in a country where good wine is so cheap.

I have heard many Jews from Russia live in Israel. Chaim has sacrified over ten years of his life for them.

It must be really the promised land for them.

They had for shure first a quality shock, because Crimea spakeling wine, Russian beer and vodka are not really culinary pleasures. At least for my gum. But Israeli wines are, the beers I think too.

I enjoy good quality port.  Poor port tastes like sherry.

Port wine is very sweet, but satisfying.  I prefer Cabernets too, and Red Zinfandel.

I think my favourite wines are Spanish Cava and French Bordeaux red wines.
