Why did Israel seize property from Gaza and give it away?

Regarding the Gaza pullout by Israel, I know this is old news and events but I still wonder how and why did this happen? Why would someone give land to their sworn enemy just to make it easier for them to launch attacks? Why would someone kick people out of their homes of generations? Why would someone give terrorists an open sea port? How did this happen? It makes me think of the US, how could we elect a radical left-wing socialist who is actively destroying our country?

yes that was really insane. I used to like Likud so much until what they did in 2004. Infact many Hindu Nationalists were favoring Likud, now there is not much difference between them and Kadima.
