Any history buffs here? I want to combat 'revisionism'
« on: June 11, 2009, 12:19:16 PM »
My wife's friend (Who is Armenian) said that her Grandfather told her that the Jews committed genocide against the Armenians right after WWI (Yes, I know that the Muslims turks did it).  And this is why Armenians today dislike Jews.

I just want to know where this revisionism is coming from... and how someone could have been indoctrinated with this nonsense.

I'm a history buff.  I think she may have got the info from an Turkish or Arab textbook. Possibly even Russian.

We are giants, giants in love...and if you ask that who are we, then you must be a dwarf.

I don't think most Armenians dislike Jews.I have no idea where the grandfather's idea comes from other than that some people just blame everything on the Jews.

Here's a very interesting link that may shed some light as to where this comes from.

Thanks for the info.. it says this:

Quote
While no professional historian of the Armenian genocide has taken this conspiracy theory seriously, there has unfortunately been no separate academic analysis as well to expose its origins and the reasons of its persistence, making it possible for this theory to survive on the margins of Armenian life.

Its obviously all made-up, with no truth... but it DOES persist in small circles.

I think there must be two main reasons for this liable:
 1. "Always blame the Jews" attitude of Antisemites everywhere.
 2. Armenians resentment that the Israeli government and American Jewish organization who appear to fight vigorously against Holocaust denial, at the same time
assist Turkey in the denial and scaling down of the Armenian genocide.
