Mekorot Water Company Takes Gilad Sharon to Court

(IsraelNN.com) Mekorot Water Company officials have filed a petition with the Be’er Sheva District Court, seeking an injunction to compel Gilad Sharon to halt the construction of new hothouses on his Sycamore Farm in the Negev.
Gilad Sharon, a son of former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, is constructing new hothouses on the family ranch after the regional planning commission granted a permit for the work.
Mekorot engineers explain that the presence of the hothouses on the area infrastructure, major water lines that feed the Negev communities, will pose a problem in the event of a malfunction or ruptured line, explaining that the young Sharon will not permit ripping up the hothouses in the event they need to do so to execute repairs.
Mekorot is calling on the court to halt construction and is seeking a revocation of the building permit by the regional planning committee, calling for a revision that would demand the hothouses are at least 15 meters (yards) from the main water lines, not above them, as is currently the case.
