I must say, that is a very nice home in the background. It is amazing what those who had money in the last century could build for a home.  A good example is the Rothchild Waddeston Manor in England http://www.waddesdon.org.uk/ .  It is sad reading the interviews of Lady Lynn Forester de Rothschild who seems to be another firmly committed supporter of the Democrat Left.

I thought the home in the back ground  was one of the Vanderbilt homes but now I am not so sure. We have several grand homes like that in the Hudson Valley here in New York that are managed by the Parks Department. They up keep the homes but you never really see the grounds kept the way the grounds look in the link you posted from England. It also seems that the great homes in Europe are always much bigger and more elaborate. I guess some of them are older and the families had more time to build on. Income tax here in America finish off most this sort of life style.

I thought it looked familiar I have been to the Mills quite a few times over the years I knew I saw that statue before she is near the parking space they have for people visiting the mansion.
http://www.staatsburgh.org/
In the back of my mind I knew I was wrong when I said it was the Vanderbilt mansion because the Vanderbilt has a totally different look it. It has three levels.
http://www.nps.gov/vama/index.htm
The properties look the same because they are right next door to one another but the houses are very different. What made the house hard to identify is that the picture shows the side and back of the house not the front. Hyde Park and Rhinebeck  are nice weekend destinations this time of the year. The Mills was undergoing extensive renovation on the outside when I was last there about 10 years ago . There is a ton of things to see in just a few miles in each direction and if anyone likes old aeroplaines the Rhinebeck Aerodrome is a place to see.
http://www.oldrhinebeck.org/
I an looking forward to going up there and tour Top Cottage it was one of the Roosevelt properties. The parks department bought the home a few years back and opened it to the public.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Top_Cottage
I would like to see that and the one day visit the one the family had at Campobello Island Canada.
http://www.campobello.com/welcente.html
There is also a home not to far from the Mills Mansion that is called Wilderstein that belonged to FDR's cousin the one he was said to pal around with. I visited the house many years ago when it was first opened to the public they were trying to generate interest in the house. The house looked like they could have filmed a horror movie in it it was run down and the property was overgrown. The property has an interesting past and I see from its website its come a long way.

Yes AisheDina.  I guess that is what real fortune looks like. I first saw it within the autobiography of the Rothshilds.  They have a number of amazing homes through out England, Germany, France, Italy and I believe Austria.  Most like cjd indicates have been turned into trusts or government buildings.  Another nice home is that of Robert Maxwell. Headington Hill Hall: http://www.headington.org.uk/history/listed_buildings/headhillhall.htm

I've got a photography question. Do black and white photos turn out better if you shoot them in color and then change them to grayscale, or if you shoot them in black and white to begin with?

Mo,

You and I think alike... When I read the title I immediately thought of Lots wife...

Also reminds me of the Song by Jerry Garcia called Gommorah:

http://www3.clearlight.com/~acsa/introjs.htm?/~acsa/songfile/GOMORRAH.HTM

Just a song of Gomorrah
I wonder what they did there
Must have been a bad thing
to get shot down for

I wonder how they blew it up
or if they tore it down
Get out, get out, Mr Lot
and don't you look around

Who gave you your orders?
Someone from the sky
I heard a voice inside my head
in the desert wind so dry

I heard a voice telling me to flee
The very same voice I always believe
Said: a lot of trouble coming
but it don't have to come to you
I'm sparing you so you can tell
the rest what you been through

But don't you turn around, no
Don't look after you
It's not your business how it's done
You're lucky to get through

You're a good upstanding man
A credit to the flock
But if you don't face straight ahead
You could not stand the shock

Blew the city off the map
Left nothing there but fire
The wife of Lot got turned to salt
because she looked behind her

Because she looked behind
Because she looked behind
You shall make yourself the Festival of Sukkoth for seven days, when you gather in [the produce] from your threshing floor and your vat.And you shall rejoice in your Festival-you, and your son, and your daughter, and your manservant, and your maidservant, and the Levite, and the stranger, and the orphan, and the widow, who are within your cities
Duet 16:13-14
