Health care bill advances without bipartisan deal
« on: September 15, 2009, 06:48:30 PM »
WASHINGTON – The Senate's top health care negotiator says he's moving ahead on health care legislation without the bipartisan agreement he'd hoped for. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus said late Tuesday he'll unveil a formal proposal on Wednesday, and move to committee deliberations next week. The Montana Democrat had spent months negotiating behind closed doors with a small group of senators trying to reach an elusive bipartisan deal.

Baucus is expected to offer a 10-year plan that costs under $900 billion and covers nearly all Americans. He said he'll keep talking with Republicans as the committee goes to work — and he hopes at least some will vote for the final product.
