Serbian Canadian:
Boyana, how is he supposed to read Serbian cyrillic?

Mo, you shouldn't be offended by that particular cross because Orthodox Serbs were generally good to Jews. In that article, it talks about how the Jewish community was grateful to the Patriarch and the Serbian Orthodox Church for the way they treated Jews. In the Jasenovac concentration camp in Croatia during WW2, thousands of Jews were murdered alongside possibily hundreds of thousands of Serbs.

I am not understanding why Mo has to apologize?

crosses are offensive to the Jews, at least half the members here are Jewish.

That would have gone well with the picture of the cross. I wasn't saying I was offended, I was just confused as to why that picture was allowed without an explanation (though the one you gave more than sufficed, however). Having said that, it's still a Christian symbol and this is a Jewish forum, and most of the Christian members know not to post crosses here. Just because there are several Jews who are grateful to Christians (Schindler and Wallenberg come to mind) doesn't mean it's ethical for us to parade around with crosses in gratitude.

Spectator:
I agree that GK should have written the explanation with the picture, to avoid confusions.

It should be remembered that in the same way as Zionism based on Judaism, Serbian nationalism based on Orthodox Christianity. 500-year Serbian struggle against Turkish Muslim oppression was driven by Serbian Orthodox religion. Nazi Ustasha Croats exterminated Serbs beacuse of their Orthodox faith. My opinion is when Serbs use their religious attributes to express their love to the homeland, it has nothing to do with missionizing and I don't see any problem with it.

Just for example, there are countries like Denmark whose national flag depicts a cross, and the Jews don't have any problem with it because it is a national and not religious symbol.
