Is Napolitano on the ropes?

The head of a grassroots immigration reform organization is calling for the resignation of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano in the wake of the attempted hijacking of a U.S. airliner Christmas Day.

Janet Napolitano (Dept. of Homeland Security)The Obama administration is now promising a sweeping review of aviation security after a Nigerian man on the terrorist watch list attempted to blow up a trans-Atlantic Northwest Airlines flight as it made its descent into Detroit on Christmas Day.

A day after saying the system worked, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano said her words had been taken out of context. In clarifying her comment, she said that "our system did not work in this instance."

William Gheen, president of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC (ALIPAC), says Napolitano must go. "As long as Janet Napolitano remains as the director of the Department of Homeland Security, any lip service President Obama gives to open and responsive government is all a lie," he states.

Conservative columnist Star Parker is among many who are now calling for President Obama to replace Napolitano. But Gheen says this is not the first time his organization has called for her dismissal. Last year the DHS secretary created an uproar when she released controversial documents.

William Gheen (ALIPAC)"She put out reports to law enforcement across the country telling them to beware of conservatives or anybody who opposed Obama's political agenda," he recalls. "And these documents were created using wacky political sources and no known or accepted techniques used by decent law enforcement agencies."

The ALIPAC president says his organization is also calling on Congress to investigate why Homeland Security is continuing to give valid U.S. visas to people on terrorist watch lists -- including the Detroit bomber.
