I'm very materialistic and self-centered.
Those are natural things to be, everyone slips into such things if they do not regulate against doing such, the fact that you naturally are something does not mean you have to be it though. You may naturally want to hurt someone when they upset you, this does not make it a good thing, and the fact that you want to does not mean you have to, you may naturally want to look at pornography, this does not make it a good thing, and does not mean you have to, you may naturally want to spend all your time doing things for yourself, again, this does not make it a good thing, and does not mean that you have to.
The answer, be vigilant, think about what you do before you do it, pray for guidance, pray for wisdom, and trust the Lord to help you achieve what is righteous, what is good, what is holy, what is just, what is kind, what is loving. I am not saying that you must never do anything for yourself, if you do nothing for your self you will find yourself becoming depressed and down hearted. However, I have found through experience that always focussing on yourself also leads to depression, you have to find a balance, spend some time doing things for yourself, some time doing things for others, and most importantly some time doing things for the Lord.(I use the term "the Lord" because in my opinion it is insulting to the most high to refer to him with a name containing a "-")
