Dr. Terry Neese, president of the Institute for the Economic Empowerment of Women, recently wrote an op-ed for AOL News titled "What Women (Business Owners) Want." She explains the basis of the column, in which she argues that women business owners in the U.S. believe the federal government is out of touch with the challenges they face.
Dr. Terry Neese (Inst. for Economic Empowerment of Women)"We've been doing a listening tour around the country, talking to Republicans, Democrats, tea party women business owners, and 52 percent of them say that taxes is their top concern," she relates. "The federal deficit and spending is their number-two concern. Healthcare is number three, and government regulations is number four."
Neese adds that women business owners are a force to be reckoned with, considering they now account for 51 percent of the small business market. "There are a little over ten-million women entrepreneurs in the country today," she explains. "We're employing about 24 million employees, and we're generating $1.3 trillion in annual revenues."
The Institute's leader does acknowledge the White House has offered help through tax credits, but says business owners have to jump through hoops to get them -- and many small-business owners, she adds, are too busy trying to stay in operation to try and take advantage.
