A Big Increase in Funding for Taglit
« on: January 09, 2011, 04:38:27 PM »
According to http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/Flash.aspx/201625
Quote
PM Binyamin Netanyahu announced a sharp increase in the budget for Taglit (Birthright), with a goal of enrolling 50,000 participants each year.

What's your opinion about this?

What's the point?

Rather than enrolling MORE people in pointless programs, they should use the money to IMPROVE the existing ones!

Also, part of this plan was to nix some of the post-birthright programming because the leftists' feathers were ruffled that they were too "orthodox" oriented!   Oh no!

But the only traditional Jewish learning is the ORTHODOX JUDAISM, so it's either some of these outreach programs or no followup.  Nobody is going to follow up on their birthright programming by wanting to come back and build a falafel stand to express their Jewishness.  People want to learn Jewish history, culture, tradition, law, Torah.  People (if they become interested in anything at all on birthright) want to do chabad type programming after Israel trips.     The knee-jerk anti-orthodox hysterics of the leftist establishment really damages the Jewish people.
