Shin Bet Insert Doesn't Fool Yitzhar Detainee

Israel Security Agency plants agent in Yitzhar detainee's cell in an attempt to get him to talk. It didn't work.

The Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) is using tricks to try to get the detainees from Yitzhar to talk, a lawyer told Arutz Sheva on Sunday.

Attorney Yossi Lin of the Honenu legal aid organization visited on Sunday the two detainees, 22-year-old Calev Blank and a 16-year-old, both of them Torah students at the Od Yosef Chai yeshiva in Yitzhar, located north of Jerusalem in northern Samaria. Blank was recently banished from Yitzhar when police officers issued restraining orders for some residents of the community.

The two are suspected of setting Arab cars on fire in retaliation for government-ordered demolitions of Jewish homes and harassment of residents, but authorities have not disclosed evidence of the alleged attacks.

Lin told Arutz Sheva that Shin Bet interrogators employ massive pressure on the 16-year-old and interrogate him every day for hours. He added that Blank was taken Sunday morning for a visit in the Arab village where he supposedly torched cars, in an attempt to get him to cooperate with the investigators.

Lin also said that during the Sabbath, another “detainee” was placed in Blank’s cell. The man, who called himself Itamar Eldar, claimed that he was a member of Hashomer Hachadash, an organization that operates in northern Israel and helps farmers under brutal attacks by Bedouins and ignored by their own police.

Eldar, who was simply a Shin Bet plant, claimed to have been arrested on suspicion of attacking Arabs in the north, and then tried to make conversation with Blank by asking him about his interrogation. Blank refused to cooperate.

Hashomer Hachadash was asked whether they are aware of a member by the name Itamar Eldar, to which they replied that they do not.

Friends of the detainees told Arutz Sheva, “We are pleased that the ISA’s attempts to break the detainees and make them admit to what they did not do are failing one after another. It is distressing to see where this prestigious body has deteriorated, especially when it is headed by a religious man.”

The character of Shimon is irrelevant

The bad or wicked character of Shimon is of no significance in the defense of Reuven the informer, even if Shimon is deemed wicked by the community or if he is one who sins for personal satisfaction. Even if Shimon was mean to Reuven, Reuven may not inform against, him to the brigand.

After proper warnings, such punishments may include beatings, ostracisms, requesting punishment by the secular non-Jewish courts, and other methods that Beth Din deems proper.
