 I know what your asking exactly, but the truth is all his life really, because its not just studying and then "closing the books". He studied, practiced, studied, practiced and taught (in person and in books). Really you can say he is still teaching- every time someone opens his books, or listens to his shiurim, Od Kahane Chai. Chai Chai Yekayam.

I know. I didn't mean that. I meant you are asking for an exact number like year 19-- till 19--.
 I dont know exactly from that strict number. I suspect it would be written in his Wife's biography book about his life. (Check it there). I have a copy, maybe some time later I might check it. You can always ask Chaim.
