Video: Residents React to Arab Harvesters in Itamar

Itamar residents expressed outrage after Arabs were allowed into the still bleeding community to harvest olives. "It's total insensitivity."

The reactions to Sunday’s shocking incident, in which residents of the community of Itamar encountered Arabs harvesting olives inside their security zone, with subsequent violence and threats, are brought to you on a Shomron Residents' Council video by Arutz Sheva.

We feel that a voice must be given to this macabre incident.

The Arabs were actually from the nearby village of Awarta, the same village from which came the two terrorists who brutally massacred five members of the Fogel family just seven months ago. And the murderers of the Shabo family in Alon Moreh. They expressed pride in what they had done rather than remorse, no one heard regrets or apologies from Awarta. The two murderers of the Fogels were sentened to five life terms each.

Awarta’s residents were allowed in by the Israeli Civil Administration in order to harvest olives. The “harvesters” threw rocks at Itamar residents, yelling “We will turn you into Fogels” and running their fingers along their necks to simulate what they would like to do.

“A friend went for a morning walk and saw that Arabs entered an olive grove in the community near the greenhouses, which is only a few meters from the homes of the residents,” Sara Kurlak, a local resident, said. “We weren’t informed at all. We organized ourselves using text messages and went down there, only a few dozen of us.”

12 year old Tamar Fogel, now the eldest in her family, joined them.

Gershon Mesika, the head of the Shomron Regional Council, was enraged at the incident, calling the Civil Administration’s actions “total insensitivity.”

“To bring in Arabs from the Awad family six months after the murder in Itamar to harvest olives in the community is first-rate irresponsibility,” Mesika said. “I want to remind that only a year ago, the murderer Hakim Awad was among the olive harvesters and collected information that later assisted him in carrying out the terror attack. The olive harvest was done without coordinating with me, without coordinating with anyone.”

Rav Natan Chai, the rabbi of the community of Itamar, also condemned the incident and said that the Civil Administration’s allowing this to occur “looks more like operational assistance by Peace Now.”

“They forcefully push these Arabs to enter Itamar, just to show that everything is going on as usual and they can continue to do whatever they want, while our hands are tied,” Rav Chai said.

“It is inconceivable that after such a heinous murder, after other murders which resulted in 22 Itamar residents being dead, and less than a year after the Fogel family, the residents of the village who never expressed remorse or apologized for the heinous murder will enter the community and harvest olives,” Kurlak said.

What Harriet Sherwood won’t report: Family of Palestinians who murdered Fogels taunt surviving children

“Settlers in Itamar were outraged Sunday morning after Palestinians from Awarta arrived in Itamar for their annual olive harvest in the settlement. According to the settlers, among the Palestinians who arrived in Itamar were the family members of brutally stabbed and murdered five members of the Fogel family six months ago.

The settlers claimed that the Palestinians shouted “We’ll Fogel you” and drew their fingers across their necks indicating slaughter. [emphasis mine]

Dozens of women and children from Itamar protested against the move, including Tamar Fogel who lost her parents and three siblings in the heinous terror attack. “

Tamar Fogel, whose parents and three siblings were murdered by Palestinian terrorists, participates in protest.

”After intervention from left-wing activists we were forced to allow the village residents to carry out their own harvest, but it is clear that with a little bit of thought and creativity we could have found a solution.” The settlers claim that this is an “absurd situation where the family of the killer harvests olives meters away from where he butchered an entire family.”

According to Itamar settlers, during last year’s harvest, Hakim Awad [one of the terrorists] entered the settlement and gathered information ahead of the massacre. “This is an abominable case of insensitivity,” they said, “In previous years yeshiva students harvested the olives for the Palestinians and transferred them to Awarta’s residents free of charge.

Chaim Fogel, father of the late Udi Fogel said in response that the incident was “an paralleled gall to bring this family to the harvest. It is gross insensitivity.”

Chaim Fogel’s words represent a profound understatement.

When you empathize more for the family of Palestinian terrorists who murdered Israeli civilians in cold blood than for the surviving children of the brutal attack, you cease to earn the mantle of “left-wing activist”.

You’re simply heartless, amoral, and unimaginably cruel.

But, as this story would be difficult for even Harriet Sherwood to weave into one of settler villainy, don’t expect to read about it in the Guardian.

Clashes in Itamar: Fogel killers' relatives attend harvest

Settlers claim family members of murderers responsible for Fogel family massacre shouted at them and made threatening gestures. Itamar residents including Tamar Fogel protested against harvest they believe is 'abominable insensitivity'

Settlers in Itamar were outraged Sunday morning after Palestinians from Awarta arrived in Itamar for their annual olive harvest in the settlement. According to the settlers, among the Palestinians who arrived in Itamar were the family members of Amjad and Hakim Awad who brutally stabbed and murdered five members of the Fogel family six months ago.

The settlers claimed that the Palestinians shouted "We'll Fogel you" and drew their fingers across their necks indicating slaughter.

Dozens of women and children from Itamar protested against the move, including Tamar Fogel who lost her parents and three siblings in the heinous terror attack. Several settlers threw rocks at Palestinians, one was lightly wounded. Security forces separated the two sides.

According to Itamar settlers, during last year's harvest, Hakim Awad entered the settlement and gathered information ahead of the massacre. "This is an abominable case of insensitivity," they said, "In previous years yeshiva students harvested the olives for the Palestinians and transferred them to Awarta's residents free of charge.

"After intervention from left-wing activists we were forced to allow the village residents to carry out their own harvest, but it is clear that with a little bit of thought and creativity we could have found a solution." The settlers claim that this is an "absurd situation where the family of the killer harvests olives meters away from where he butchered an entire family."

Chaim Fogel, father of the late Udi Fogel said in response that the incident was "an paralleled gall to bring this family to the harvest. It is gross insensitivity." He claims that "untill now we have been restrained and have not demanded that their families be evicted or harmed in any way though it was called for. We didn't want to touch it though it was clearly burning us from within."

The Palestinians who arrived on the settlement accompanied by Police Special Forces and Border Guard officers claimed that they weren't close relatives of the murderers. "There are famers from the Awad family among the harvesters," admitted Jamal Kavarik, an Awarta resident, "but they weren't closely related to the murderers. The Awad clan in Awarta is numerous."

He attested to the fact that the IDF arrived at the scene in the early hours of the morning to secure the harvest and prevent altercations between the Palestinians and the settlers. "When we arrived on the field 15 settlers came down from Itamar and started throwing rocks at the farmers. I called the Coordination and Liaison Administration and told them and the IDF arrived at the scene."

Rational outook

Settlers claim the incident is "an outrageous scandal that cries out to the heavens," Gershon Mesika, head of the Shomron Regional Council said.

"Exactly one year ago in meetings with IDF and Civil Administration chiefs I sounded the alarm over how terrorists could use the olive harvest to gather information ahead of terror attacks.

"In spite of all the warnings, hundreds of Arabs from Awarta entered Itamar for the harvest, including the killer Hakim Awad who collected information before the massacre. I would expect that this year would bring a more rational outlook on the subject."

Brigadier General (Res.) Rabbi Avichai Rontzki, the head of the yeshiva in Itamar also responded harshly to the incident: "Six months after the murder, with the blood still boiling and the settlement still caring for its bleeding wounds, allowing any resident of Awarta where the murderers of the Fogel family and the Shabo family came from is outrageous lawlessness."

I'll be longing for the day when a Jewish leader arises and takes a sword to each of these arabs' filthy necks. They can run and flee and terror and get tracked down one by one.
The city isn't what it used to be. It all happened so fast. Everything went to crap. It's like... everyone's sense of morals just disappeared. Bad economy made things worse. Jobs started drying up, then the stores had to shut down. Then a black man was elected president. He was supposed to change things. He didn't. More and more people turned to crime and violence... The town becomes gripped with fear. Dark times, dark times... I am the hero this town needs. I am... The Coon!!!

I did not attack him, I said I did not agree with what he did on his last moments on earth.  As far as I know he was a wonderful man.

This is different, these are not people sitting in a Mosque, not engaged in a confrontation, these are filthy rodents taunting a child whose family was butchered.  To bring the murderer's family to taunt that child is beyond evil and no punishment they could receive would be excessive.
