Israeli hackers claimed Tuesday to have hacked and brought down the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul) website, in retaliation for Monday's cyber assault on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, El Al and First International Bank of Israel's websites.
Ynet confirmed that the Tadawul website was unavailable Tuesday afternoon and in the early evening hours.
"Since hackers from Saudi Arabia decided to hack into Israeli websites, like the El Al site and banks' websites, we decided to hack the Saudi stock exchange," the group, which calls itself "IDF Team", wrote in a post on the PasteBin website, adding "This is only the beginning."
The group said that "if the Saudi hackers' attacks continue, we will move on to the next phase – downing websites for a longer period of time – weeks and even months. Consider yourselves warned."
As part of the cyber war between Israeli hackers and counterparts believed to be based in Saudi Arabia, different Israeli hackers leaked a list containing the details of hundreds of email accounts belonging to Saudi medical students.
"We don't normally target innocent websites," the hackers said. "But this is a cyber war – and every war has its casualties."
The message, they said, was aimed at the hacker known as "0xOmar," who leaked the information of thousands of Israelis two weeks ago.
"Every time an Israeli website will be hacked, the same will happen to Saudi websites." the Israeli group warned.
