When I visted there it looked like mostly poor whites but like most of the rest of Texas it's a bit of a mix
Here's the demographics per Wikipedia:
As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,275 people, 434 households, and 352 families residing in the city. The population density was 603.8 people per square mile (233.3/km²). There were 470 housing units at an average density of 222.6 per square mile (86.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 94.82% White, 0.31% African American, 0.78% Native American, 1.10% Asian, 1.80% from other races, and 1.18% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.25% of the population.
It goes to show that just because an area is white doesn't mean it's not degenerate, of course I will also say it felt fairly safe except for people's big dogs growling and barking on chains.
