Rabbi Schachter later in his lecture, gives testimony from Rishonim, that show that there were indeed periods of time in Spain, before the advent of the Zohar, where people there did not wear Tephillin on Chol Hamoed.

That is your opinion... As stated several time the Zohar is considered a valid source for Jewish mystical ideas. It matters not that you don't consider it to be valid. I fail to understand why you have so much disrespect for this mystic tradition.

As a Noachide your opinion is simply your opinion. Not even Rabbi Bar Chayim {according to my understanding} would even consider calling the Zohar hooey {as you do}...
