Your number is off. The debt has gone up by approximately $13 billion dollars since you posted this. Of course, between the time that I began typing this response and the time that I click the post button, the debt will have gone up approximately another $600,000. But don't worry. According to the politicians, this is all very sustainable.

No, it won't. Not that I particularly favor foreign aid, I don't. But cutting what amounts to 1% of the federal budget is not going to make a significant dent in the deficit if all other spending remains the same or continues to go up. And face it, it will go up. In fact, in the unlikely event that federal aid were eliminated, politicians would look at that as 1% of the federal budget that could be spent on something else.

It shouldn't be sarcastic. It's a start. You need to start somewhere. I'm just saying that if politicians continue to increase spending and only offer up minuscule cuts in some programs for political reasons, we are never going to accomplish anything resembling a reduction in the total debt.

By the way, hearty congratulations are in order to the United States of America! Yesterday, they officially reached and surpassed the $16 trillion mark. For those of you who have trouble visualizing that, here it is.

Here's some more fun with numbers. Each citizen's share of the debt comes out to nearly $52,000.00. That's assuming that all of the 311.5 million people in the US actually pay for this debt. Unfortunately about half the people are too busy collecting and adding to the debt to be concerned about how much their share of it is. Assuming all the members of this forum who live in the US are taxpayers, as opposed to tax receivers, you all need to write a check for $104,000.00 and immediately send it to the IRS. If you don't, then you aren't paying your "fair share".

That's on top of the regular 1.5 to 2 billion the US gives Egypt annually, and on top of a 4.8 billion of new loans from the IMF (if which the USA is the biggest contributor) and on top of insuring additional several hundreds of million of new debt issuing which Egypt would never bother repaying.
