State TV shows aftermath of assassination attempt on Syrian Prime Minister:

Heavy damage was inflicted on buildings and vehicles nearby but Syrian Prime Minister Wael al-Halqi escaped unhurt from the blast which targeted his motorcade in the Mazzeh neighbourhood of Damascus, according to state television.

Barack Obama 'gives himself wriggle room' over chemical weapons in Syria:

The regime of Bashar al-Assad may appeared to have crossed a red line set by Barack Obama over the use of chemical weapons, but it is "not going to face consequences" yet, says The Telegraph's Damien McElroy.

Barack Obama said he wanted to "establish with some certainty" the circumstances surrounding the Syrian regime's alleged deployment of chemical weapons before deciding on a response, despite saying they had been used.

The 'red line' has become a 'brown line' which will soon become a 'grey line' which will ultimately be a 'white line'...

Obama can only 'talk tough' to the Israelis...

You shall make yourself the Festival of Sukkoth for seven days, when you gather in [the produce] from your threshing floor and your vat.And you shall rejoice in your Festival-you, and your son, and your daughter, and your manservant, and your maidservant, and the Levite, and the stranger, and the orphan, and the widow, who are within your cities

Syrian Shias flee to Lebanon to escape Sunni militias:

Shia residents from Damascus have described how armed Sunni militiamen waged a campaign of terror in their neighbourhood, daubing crosses on the doors of homes and assassinating religious leaders in the street.

The testimonies given by Shia refugees who have fled to Lebanon paint a graphic picture of how the Syrian rebellion is becoming beset by deep-seated sectarianism, with hardline Sunni rebels now bent on building and uncompromising Islamic state.

“I heard the imam in the mosque next to our home call for jihad — holy war — against the Syrian regime, and against the Alawites and Shia. They were shouting it from the minarets,” said Awatif, 60, too frightened of reprisals to give her family name.

US to reconsider arming Syrian rebels, says Chuck Hagel:

The US is reconsidering its opposition to arming Syrian rebel groups, Chuck Hagel, the US defence secretary said on Thursday night, as reports emerged of a fresh massacre of up to 50 women and children by government forces in Syria.

"There are plenty of arms getting in there, the difference if the US started supplying arms it would be a sign of leadership and direction," Mr Hammond said. "The Saudis, the Qataris and others are pushing arms into Syria but none of those countries can provide the sense of leadership that the US doing it can."

Syria: Sunni village 'massacred' in Alawaite heartland:

Scores of people including civilian men, women and children were killed after a Sunni village in the heart of Syria's Alawite heartland was stormed by militias loyal to the Assad regime, relatives have claimed.

"On Thursday afternoon they entered the village. The seized homes and began arresting everyone. They gathered them in the main square and started kicking and beating and stoning them," said Hosam al-Hamad, a resident of the neighbouring town of Banias who has spoken in detail with friends in Bayda.
With communication lines down and access to the village severed it was difficult to calculate a death toll. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights put the total number of dead at 50, including women and children, but said that could rise past 100.

An activist speaking from rebel held parts of nearby Latakia province claimed the violence was revenge for rebel attacks on government troops in a neighbouring area four days previously that had resulted in the death of several soldiers.
Locals said they feared Thursday's attack could spark an uncontrollable spiral of sectarian killings and revenge attacks.

Israel launches air strike on Syria:

The Israeli Air Force has conducted an air strike on Syria targeting a container of weaponry bound for the Lebanese terrorist organisation Hizbollah, an Israeli official confirmed.

The early morning strike on Friday targeted “game-changing” weapons believed to be long-range missiles, an Israeli official told the Associated Press.
This is the second Israeli strike on a Syrian arms target this year. After the bombing of weapons convoy carrying long-range missiles to the Lebanese border in January, Israel warned it would not hesitate to act again to prevent the transfer of chemical or any other advanced weaponry from Bashar al-Assad’s massive arsenal to terror groups in Lebanon.

Syria’s tragedy can no longer be contained:

Telegraph View: The world needs to confront the implications of its inability to keep Syria’s horror within its frontiers

The capacity of the Syrian civil war to draw other nations into its ghastly vortex has finally been realised with the Israeli air strikes on targets inside the disintegrating state. While Western powers have been anxious to stay out of the conflict, Israel cannot afford to be indifferent to what is happening on its doorstep. Warplanes attacked a convoy of missiles apparently destined for Hizbollah in southern Lebanon. More dramatically, Israeli jets also appear to have targeted a military research facility near Damascus. Israel would not confirm the second strike – but nor did it ever officially acknowledge the destruction of Syria’s al-Kibar nuclear plant in 2007.

UN accuses Syrian rebels of chemical weapons use:

Syrian rebels have made use of the deadly nerve agent sarin in their war-torn country's conflict, UN human rights investigator Carla del Ponte has said.

"According to the testimonies we have gathered, the rebels have used chemical weapons, making use of sarin gas," del Ponte, a former war crimes prosecutor, said in an interview with Swiss radio late on Sunday.

Top UN rights investigator Carla del Ponte said Sunday that according to testimony, rebels have been using sarin gas.

Clashes over Bangladesh protest leave 27 dead:

At least 27 people have been killed and dozens hurt after police and Islamist protesters clashed in Bangladesh.

Police used stun grenades and rubber bullets to disperse a Sunday protest organised by the group Hefazat-e Islam in the capital Dhaka. But there were later running battles throughout Sunday and into Monday in areas across the city. Tens of thousands of Islamists had gathered in the city to call for stronger Islamic policies.

Analysis: Hizbollah’s quandary over Israel retaliation in Syria:

Israel's air raids on Hizbollah targets inside Syria have landed one of its most dangerous foes with an agonising dilemma.

If Hassan Nasrallah, the Hizbollah leader and a man who once basked in the adoration of the Arab world, is not prepared to launch his deadly armoury now, then when might he ever do so? He must decide whether to retaliate for the air strikes by bombarding Israel - and almost certainly starting a regional war - or sitting tight and risking the appearance of a paper tiger.

Vladimir Putin: a man the West can do business with?

David Cameron’s meeting with Russian president Vladimir Putin in Sochi may be fraught with mind games, but it could help bring an end to the civil war in Syria.

When David Cameron arrives at the Black Sea resort of Sochi on Friday for talks with Vladimir Putin, he would be well advised to bring a good book with him to while away the time.

There is nothing Russia’s whimsical leader likes more than to play mind games with visiting dignitaries. During his first encounter with Angela Merkel, Mr Putin brought his Labrador Koni to the meeting because he had heard that the German Chancellor was afraid of dogs. Koni, by all accounts a gentle creature who wouldn’t hurt a fly, sat dutifully at her master’s side throughout the session; but it was said to have been a deeply unnerving experience for Mrs Merkel, who has suffered a phobia of dogs since she was bitten as a young girl.

And Mr Putin was up to his psychological tricks again this week when John Kerry, the US Secretary of State, arrived in Moscow for vital talks on the deepening crisis in Syria. Rather than making the envoy of the world’s most powerful nation feel at ease, Mr Putin kept him waiting in a Kremlin ante-room for three hours before the meeting started, and then proceeded to fiddle continuously with his pen while Mr Kerry set out his arguments for robust intervention in Syria to end the bloodshed.

It is now Mr Cameron’s turn to try his hand at reasoning with the Russian president and, if the recent problematic history of Anglo-Russian relations is anything to go by, the Prime Minister should be prepared for some awkward moments.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/vladimir-putin/10046577/Vladimir-Putin-a-man-the-West-can-do-business-with.html

So they will be sincerely trying to end the protracted Syrian revolutionary war of muslamic infighting. Why can not Britain and Nato by themselves come out and end this war with the help of Turkey as they successfully did it in Serbia. Where is any real need of Putin for them.

Turkey-Syria border town hit by car bombs:

Syria's civil war spilled over the border into southern Turkey on Saturday when a series of car bombs killed 40 people in the town of Reyhanli.

This was the bloodiest incident on Turkish soil since the onset of Syria's civil war in 2011. Four explosions near the town hall devastated the centre of Reyhanli in the Turkish province of Hatay. Muammer Guler, the interior minister, told local media that 40 people had been killed and at least 29 wounded.

Under the black flag of al-Qaeda, the Syrian city ruled by gangs of extremists:

The black flag of al-Qaeda flies high over Raqqa’s main square in front of the smart new governor’s palace, its former occupant last seen in their prison. Their fighters, clad also in black, patrol the streets, or set up positions behind sandbags.

They brought in a radical cleric from Egypt to preach Friday prayers, and set up a sharia court in the city’s new sports centre with the support of other brigades. They had their fiefdom — an entire city to run only 60 miles from Nato’S border.

Their new-found power is such that it is changing international calculations over the conflict. After first being discouraged from action by their presence in rebel ranks, Britain now has a revised diplomatic strategy.

Kill the Syrians': Turkish mobs search out civil war refugees after devastating car bomb:

The Telegraph's Richard Spencer witnesses fear and suspicion in the Turkish border town of Reyhanli where 46 people died in a double bombing.

The mob shouted "Kill the Syrians" as they marched on the Hawam family drinks stall in Reyhanli. Refugees from Aleppo, the family served mainly fellow Syrians, and were natural targets after Saturday's double bombing of the Turkish border town. "There were 60, maybe 100 of them," said Ridar Hawam, 18, the older boy. "They were shouting, 'You are Syrian, you are bombing us.' They said they should shoot all Syrians, even the children."

Russia shift on Syria sees Cameron urge new Western approach:

David Cameron will tell President Barack Obama that Russia is shifting its position on Syria and the opportunity exists to “put some flesh on the bones” of a new peace drive.

The Prime Minister is holding talks with the US leader in Washington just days after meeting Russia’s President Vladimir Putin for talks that indicated a breakthrough was possible on differences over Syria.

The subtle shift in the Russian position suggests Moscow is more willing to engage with the West on talks to end the civil war.

“I was very heartened that while it is no secret that Britain and Russia have taken a different approach to Syria I was very struck in my conversations with President Putin that there is a recognition that it would be in all our interests to secure a safe and secure Syria with a democratic and pluralistic future and end the regional instability.”

Russia has frustrated Cameron and other Western leaders in the past by blocking action against Assad in the United Nations and by supplying the Syrian government with arms.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/syria/10053515/Russia-shift-on-Syria-sees-Cameron-urge-new-Western-approach.html

If by chance the peace is the objective and is really on the cards, and if a so-called wide ruling joint democratic front for Syria is a possibility, then firstly all the weapon supplies to the rebels must be stopped at once, otherwise after the so-called peace these weapons will be shifted in to the hands of the hardcore muslamic terrorists and can be used against Israel. As a precondition to peace, Hezbollah should be smashed as Hezbollah will be profited most by the peace to get the chemical weapons in their hands.

Erdogan is a murderer, claims Syrian minister after deadly car bombings:

Syria's information minister has blamed Turkey's government for deadly car bombings near the Syrian border and branded Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan a "murderer", state-run Russian TV company RT reported.

"All responsibility for what has happened lies with the Turkish government and Erdogan personally," RT quoted Omran Zubi as saying in an interview with its Arabic-language channel.

"I demand his resignation as a murderer and an executioner. He has no right to build a political career on the blood of the Turkish and Syrian people," RT quoted Mr Zubi as saying.

It said he repeated a denial of Syrian involvement in car bombings that killed 46 people on Saturday in the Turkish border town of Reyhanli. Turkey has accused a group with links to Syrian intelligence of carrying out the attacks.

Speaking on Syrian state TV the same day, Mr Zubi said Damascus had no hand in the Reyhanli blasts and blamed Turkey for the bloodshed in Syria, saying it had aided al Qaeda-led rebels.

The car bombs increased fears that Syria's civil war, in which a Syrian opposition group says more than 82,000 people have been killed since it began with a government crackdown on protests in March 2011, is dragging in neighbouring states.

Syria: David Cameron pledges to redouble efforts for settlement:

David Cameron pledged to redouble efforts for a negotiated settlement to the Syrian crisis, saying he no longer believed the rebels could overthrow President Bashar al-Assad outright.

Speaking in Washington, he downplayed immediate prospects of the West arming the rebels for a push on Damascus.

He spoke as fresh evidence of atrocities on both sides emerged, including one video of a breakaway rebel militia leader shown cutting out the heart of a dead Syrian regime soldier and pretending to eat it. The most gruesome video to emerge, though, shows a rebel militia leader from Homs, Khaled al-Hamad, or "Abu Saqqar", cutting the heart and liver out of a corpse.

The war's death toll is estimated at more than 80,000. Mr Cameron said something had to be done to stop the current "trajectory" into extremist violence. "Syria's history is being written in the blood of her people, and it is happening on our watch," he said. "The world urgently needs to come together to bring the killing to an end."

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/syria/10055065/Syria-David-Cameron-pledges-to-redouble-efforts-for-settlement.html

And so Russia should not be allowed at this stage from withdrawing the support for Assad. Otherwise this protracted war of muslamic infighting will end prematurely and culminate in to a chaotic mayhem created by the muslamic terrorists.

Syrian rebel defends eating dead soldier's organs as revenge:

A Syrian rebel militia leader filmed cutting the heart and organs out of a regime soldier's corpse and putting it in his mouth has defended his actions as legitimate vengeance.

The actions of Khaled al-Hamad, known by the nom de guerre Abu Sakkar, handed an instant propaganda victory to the Syrian govenrment, which accused the West of ignoring rebel atrocities.

The video purported to show the leader of a breakaway rebel faction cutting the lungs out of a soldier’s corpse before apparently eating a small piece of the organ.

”I swear to God we will eat your hearts, Alawite soldiers of Bashar the dog,” he said, referring to supporters of President Bashar al-Assad from the minority Alawite sect.

Jabhat al-Nusra faces al-Qaeda sanctions at UN under Anglo-French proposal:

Britain and France are leading a push to designate the leading Syrian rebel force Jabhat al-Nusra as al-Qaeda controlled in an effort to strengthen the moderate opposition.

America has already determined that al-Nusra, an Islamic fundamentalist militia that controls a swathe of eastern Syria, is a terrorist group. Abu Mohammed al-Jawlani, al-Nusra’s leader has pledged allegiance to Ayman al-Zawahiri, the leader of al-Qaeda.

Syria: death and prayers in Damascus:

Dispatch: The front line in south-east Damascus now lies at the gates of one of the holiest sites for Shia Islam, the resting place of the granddaughter of the Prophet Mohammed, writes Ruth Sherlock.

The front line in south-east Damascus now lies at the gates of one of the holiest sites for Shia Islam, the resting place of the granddaughter of the Prophet Mohammed.

In the abandoned apartment blocks, some less than 100 yards away, fighters from the al-Qaeda-affiliated group Jabhat al-Nusra train their sniper sights on the wrought iron entrance to the shrine.

Here, soldiers and pro-government militiamen stand their ground. A concrete hideout has been built beside the main entrance to the shrine and sandbag defences mark forward positions beside shuttered market stalls.

One Shia analyst warns of the consequences of the Islamists fulfilling their destructive pledge. "You don't want to know what will happen if this temple is destroyed. The Shia leaders will not be able to control the street. There will be killing everywhere, Syria and the region will become a bloodbath."

US brand Russia's decision to send missiles to Syria as 'ill-timed and unfortunate':

The US have condemned Russia's shipment of advanced anti-ship missiles to Syria, saying it could serve to encourage President Bashar al-Assad's forces to keep fighting a bloody civil war.
