I used to be a Leftist, then I learned the truth about the Middle East from JTF
Catnip:
Shalom JTF. I am in Canada. Long-time JTF watcher/listener, first time poster.
Long time ago, I became a leftist in college but quit the Left after a couple years, when I realized the leaders of the Left were self-serving hypocrites, and that everything they said was BS.
When I was a leftist university student years ago, my favourite professor was an arab nazi fakestinian muslim nutjob from the persian gulf who taught middle eastern history. He was very biased and only assigned authors like edward said who posits in his book Orientalism that every western scholar who writes about the middle east is racist; and self-hating anti-Zionist Jews such as Uri Davis, who coined the thesis that Israel is an apartheid state. This Arab nazi professor would fail anybody who disagreed with him, and I remember there was this one Jewish kid from Israel who argued with the prof, and he was failed. The prof ranted and raved and acted like a complete lunatic, he would even throw childish temper tantrums and storm out of class.
Unfortunately I went to all the pro-palestinian and anti-iraq and afghanistan war demonstations around campus at the time of course, and even held a fakestinian flag at a rally that I was told at the time was broadcast on arab nazi news channels in the middle east, to show people in the arab nazi muslim countries how a group of canadians held a rally and waved some fakestinian flags.
Thanks to JTf I no longer believe in the fakestinian version, and I realize now that i was brainwashed back then, and JTF has helped deprogam me. If I had known back then what i know now thanks to JTF, I would have argued with that arab nazi professor.
Is anyone else out there in JTF land like myself, who were leftists when they were younger, like maybe you went to a left wing university in a socialist country and had mostly marxist professors, but then had JTF changed your mind about the middle east, and now you collect mp3's of Chaim ?
Lisa:
Welcome to JTF, Catnip.
I used to also be liberal when I was younger, although I never attended a pro fakestinian rally. Just like you, my shift to the right began when I saw Chaim's JTF show on public television one night. I was riveted. From then on, I followed the website every week.
Another thing that made me shift to the right was reading Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. Now granted, Rand was an atheist. But she made excellent, moral arguments for capitalism in that book.
The One and Only Mo:
I think all universities are leftists
Confederate Kahanist:
I used to be a big supporter of the Democratic party who voted for Gore in 2000 and voted then voted for Kerry in 2004 though not anymore since I got more concerned with issues like illegal immigration and started listening to economists like Thomas Sowell explain that socialism doesn't work and what it does to different countries.
Any who
Welcome to the forum!
