Israel - Rabbi Denounces Career Women
« on: July 13, 2007, 12:07:03 AM »
Israel - Israel's chief Ashkenazi rabbi has denounced the "phenomenon of women who make their careers on the backs on their children."

"The principle role of the Jewish mother throughout the generations has been to take care of the home and the children," Yona Metzger told a religious assembly.
"It is important that this principle be respected," he said, adding that "a prolonged absence by women from home is damaging for children's education."
The rabbi said he was not against women working, on the condition that they "don't build careers."

Women in Orthodox Jewish families often work, as the men devote themselves to study. [AFP]

They mean ultra-orthodox. Orthodox men earn their living.

Yes, I also agree.

One of the reasons our country is crumbling around us is because mothers are working on careers and fathers are too busy watching football in their lazy boys while the children are being raised without a cohesive family or proper instruction.

Too right. Didn't women get sold a crock with that stupid feminism? They used to have the worry of running a home. Now feminists have fixed it so women have to worry about running a home AND have all the stress of a creer........and feel inadequate if they can't do both.

Feminism was supposed to make women happier. I can't see any extra happiness in women today. All I see is anti-depressants being sold in record numbers, burnt-out, stressed working mothers and 30-something spinsters depressed because they can't find the non-existent , womens magazine ideal of a perfect man.

Well... they were sold Feminism for numerous reasons. I know that this isn't popular but it was partially men's fault. If men had been strong in the right ways and not over dominate in the wrong ways, it wouldn't have had to come to that. It takes two to tango.

But yes, unfortunately, a lot of liberal concepts have hurt the family unit (and I don't think it's by accident).

I can't think of a SINGLE liberal concept that was worth a damn. Lemme see now; feminism, welfare, affirmative action, prison reform, end white SA rule, the bollockstinian cause, end white Rhodesian rule, socialism.....
...............if someone has a liberal success story please post it.

Newman:  "...if someone has a liberal success story please post it..."

1.  Child Labor Laws - prior to "the liberals" fighting for this law, children under the age of twelve worked deep in coal mines and in sweat shops, for no minimum wage and often on 12 to 16 hour long shifts.

2.  The Right for Workers To Organize for Their Rights. - prior to "the liberal leftist socialists" fighting (quite literally, with clubs and guns and dynamite and fists as well as lawyers) for the right to bargain with employers over their contracts, workers were quite literally serf/slaves to employers.  They were forced to live in socialist style barrack housing on the property of the employer's factory.  They had no vacation time/ time off, no maximum hours/week above which the employers had to pay overtime, the only medical care available to them was "The Company Doctor", employed on premises, who never found anything wrong with any worker which would prevent them going back to the mines or mills.  Workers were only able to purchase all of their family necessities at "The Company Store", always "on credit" because their paltry salaries wouldn't even come close to supporting life, resulting in a perpetual "state of slavery"; the worker could not ever stop working until the day he died, because he was in debt to the employer's "Company Store" his entire life.  When he finally died from overwork and abuse, the employer took his children into the mines or mills to work because the surviving family was legally required to pay off their father's debt to "The Company".

Do you want me to continue, Newman?

Or...have you had enough?

And, don't come back at me with "that's not the liberals you're talking about", because at the time of those acts and laws being passed, anyone in favor of them was denounced as "Communists", "Traitors", "Atheist G-d Haters", "Destroyers of Free Enterprise, etc. etc...

As a matter of fact, Newman, ...less than 100 years ago Company owners often employed full time thugs & killers as their own personal private "police force", who would murder workers and beat them with clubs and chains for any reason whatsoever...all with legal impunity.  In the name of "free enterprise".

Shall I continue with the "liberal laws" passed to outlaw working conditions which were dangerous to life and health?

How about "universal education" laws demanding children be schooled until the age of 16?  Another "liberal socialist" scheme (at least the "conservatives" of the time said so).

As a matter of fact, Newman, I'd go so far as to say that everything you hold dear to your life today, is due 100% to the actions of "liberals" responsible for what all we in the West today know as "Modern Civilization".

The American Founding Fathers also were denounced by every Monarch in the world.
All other countries believed that Monarchs ruled by Divine Right granted to them to do anything and everything they pleased  to their subjects directy by G-d and His Son Jesus Christ!  The Natural Order of Things as they saw it, and anyone questioning them was a "liberal" "criminal" "atheist" "anti-Christ".

Don't mistake traitors and mentally ill sociopaths as being one and the same as liberals, and don't mistake Republicans for conservatives or mistake Democrats for liberals.  There is no such relationship.  Democrat President John F. Kennedy was more conservative than any one of the entire Republican Party leadership today.

Don't tell me about organised labour. I was a union delegate for 5 long years.

We'll have to disagree about the definition of a 'liberal' then, as Americas founding fathers were not what we call liberals today.

PS: Isn't universal education a Torah concept?

The sad fact today is people want more material things and all that stuff cost money.   Unless the father in the family makes a very good income the mother will also have to work to keep the bill collectors from busting down the door. The list of must haves for most folks has become so long that unless both people work they could never even start to pay for the lifestyle most folks today consider basic necessities.
People lived much simpler years ago if you had TV it was one TV not one in each room, no cable service at the tune of over a $100 bucks a month, no cell phones or internet bills. People were considered to be well off if they had a car in the family today  we have 3 and 4 cars in one home. Even the homes they build today have 3 and 4 car garages as well as home entertainment systems through out the entire home, pools, hot tubs and Jacuzzis the list goes on and on.
People are no longer happy with the lifestyle that their parents or grandparants had. Folks today  want all the bells and whistles and this is why in most cases you have children being raised by nannies and daycare with the results we see in todays society.
Add to this the fact that the credit industry is worse then a set off vampires sucking the life blood by plying folks with consumer credit to no end. Soon a person who has little willpower will find themselves in the hole for one or two times their annual salary if not even more. This in my opinion is as bad if not worse than any company store ever was. The sad fact is that societies priorities have gone out of whack and the situation we have now is the result.

You are so right, cjd.

We spend more, but have less. We buy more, but enjoy less. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life - not life to years.

Very good post Massuh and Newman.  I'm afraid Liberals then were nothing comparable to the sort today as we all know very well.  I'd like to say that I agree with the Rabbi.
"‘Vehorashtem/Numbers 33:53’: When you burn out the Land’s inhabitants, you will merit to bestow upon your children the Land as an inheritance. If you do not burn them out, then even if you conquer the Land, you will not merit to allot it to your children as an inheritance." - Ovadiah ben Yacov Sforno; Italian Rabbi, Biblical Commentator, Philosopher and Physician.  1475-1550.

Newman:  "...Americas founding fathers were not what we call liberals today..."

They, to a man, would have long ago made very short work of the traitors and frauds today who call themselves Republicans and Democrats.

They, to a man, would have hung anyone trying to pass "The Patriot Act", and would have hung anyone thinking that such a monstrous assault on The Constitution it has anything to do with America.

The use of the word "liberal" to denigrate and insult anyone of a different view than oneself, is itself indicative of stupidity and ignorance.  No different than  international socialists and globalists denouncing all that disagree with them as "fascist", "anti-progressive", "racist", etc...

The sad fact, is that there are very few people left in the United States capable of actually defining any of the epithets they so readily hurl at others.

As a matter of fact, there are very few people left in this country capable of reading a simple well-composed English sentence, and comprehending the meaning of it.

Don't like my views?

Duuuuuuuh?

I think you need to get your definitians right to make that claim.

American versus European use of the term "liberalism"

Today the word "liberalism" is used differently in different countries. (See Liberalism worldwide) One of the greatest contrasts is between the usage in the United States and usage in Continental Europe. According to Arthur Schlesinger, Jr. (writing in 1962), "Liberalism in the American usage has little in common with the word as used in the politics of any European country, save possibly Britain."[1]

According to Girvetz and Minogue writing in Encyclopædia Britannica, "contemporary liberalism has come to represent different things to Americans and Europeans: In the United States it is associated with the welfare-state policies of the New Deal program of Democratic President Franklin D. Roosevelt, whereas in Europe liberals are more commonly conservative in their political and economic outlook."[2]

In late 20th century and early 21st century political discourse, "liberalism" has come to mean support for freedom of speech and freedom of religion, reproductive rights for women, a progressive income tax, the right to privacy, equal rights for sodomites, equal rights for the disabled, affirmative action, the reduction of poverty by government intervention, affordable quality health care for all as provided by government intervention, and the protection of the environment and of endangered species. In many European countries, some of these are non-issues, and European liberals share many positions in common with Christian Democrats and Social Democrats.

Exactly!

So you do agree with me!

Unless the terms can be succinctly defined to the agreement of all, they are meaningless.

I should have used the term 'American Liberalism'. However I think it is fairly clear that 99% of people in the USA today use the term 'liberal' to mean 'modern American Liberal'. Who would think Rush Limbaugh or G Gordon Liddy was referring to classic liberalism of 17th century Europe when they say 'liberals will surrender this country'?

I think you are splitting hairs, Mussah.

This is THE issue.

Of course, NO ONE (except Adam 613) agrees with me.
