Most people know by now that Chanukah 'falls-out' on the day of Thanksgiving this year (it starts the evening before Thanksgiving since the Jewish day starts at sun-down).

There are many lessons to be learned from the story of Chanukah, both the simple understanding and the more realistic (Kahanist) understanding of the Holiday... While the simple meaning of the holiday gets all the coverage in the media (as they like to think of it as a Jewish 'x-mas' which it is most certainly not) it is still a holiday of miracles, good food, and fun for the children. But as grown Jews we must address the true meaning of Chanukah being the incredible strength of a small band of Jewish patriots who stood up to incredible odds to defeat one of the most powerful armies of the times. It is the victory over the Hellenists which is the true miracle (the miracle of the oil confirmed the miracle of the victory).
