Thursday 20th February 2014, Academics for Palestine in Ireland launched a campaign called Academia Against Apartheid whereby 138 Irish academics, on the back of the vote by the Teachers Union of Ireland, have signed a document pledging to boycott academic institutions and individuals who are involved actively or passively in Israel’s illegal occupation of the Palestinian Territories. Irish signatories were joined by two scholars, Dr Ghada Karmi of the University of Exeter, a Palestinian and Professor Haim Bresheeth of the School of Oriental and African Studies London, an Israeli who both called for civil society to create awareness of the oppression of Palestinians by the state of Israel and to join the boycott until Israel observes international law in this regard.

Distorting the Holocaust: The Case of Haim Bresheeth

Following a request, I reproduce a post that I once made as a comment in a thread to Harry's Place blog about Haim Bresheeth. The post was made in October 2007 and for some reason, when Harry's Place moved to a new blog in 2008, the posts from that month were not copied accross. A point that I would change in that post is that I would not use  Anna Porter's book for the reference for footnote 5 as Porter's book, in my opinion, is unreliable. A better reference for the same point from a far more reliable scholar is the following:

Bresheeth is really an Islamo Nazi supporter who supports Palestinians slaughtering Israeli civilians and believes Israel should do nothing in response to Palestinian Nazis murdering Israeli civilians.

Bresheeth is the author of several books, including one actually titled “Holocaust for Beginners,” (also translated into Turkish and Croatian!) and numerous articles.  Here is another example of his writing, from in article in the Egyptian newspaper, Al-Ahram (2006):

People have their choice to boycott anything they don't like. Why they do not boycott newly founded country of Kosovo where the Christians are slaughtered every day? Or why they do not boycott country of Qatar for exploiting poor Indian emigrants?
Why they do not boycott the nazi decision that Russian is no longer an official language in Ukraine? Why they do not boycott human rights violations against the Jews all over the world?
