I ask this as how in G-d's name could he have reinstated a ganav & gazlan like Aryeh Deri as head of Shas?

Aryeh Deri is a truly Rasha, and it is made even worse because he wears the uniform of Torah. About Rav Ovadia I dont know, and it didnt really help Shas politically even. They lost as many votes by adding Deri as they gained.

I don't think he was senile and definitely he had no Alzheimer. He has always overlooked the criminal and immoral activity of Deri and the entire leadership of Shas, including his own family members.

Why would he do such thing?
IMHOIt sure detracts from his gadlus if that is the case.
If he were a true tzadik he would give them all musar & bring them to do tshuva not just turn a blind eye to their evil ways.

I am just trying to find their rational for their criminal activity. Most criminals try to rationalize their crimes. If I remember correctly Aryeh Deri even used that excuse himself by claiming he was just accepting donations for yeshivas. Of course he also pocketed some of the money for himself I guess he classifies this theft as commission.
