Great and memorable quotes:
« on: August 11, 2007, 04:07:58 AM »
We often stumble across great, profound quotes in life only to forget the source later on. Here is a small collection to get started. Please add others that you may come across.

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a well, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, co-operate, act alone, solve equations, analyse a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialisation is for insects. -- Robert Heinlein

"People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." ----George Orwell

"Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel or envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." - -- Winston Churchill

"Inside every man is a George Costanza"----Newman

“You can’t teach a monkey to speak and you can’t teach an Arab to be democratic. You’re dealing with a culture of thieves and robbers. Muhammad, their prophet, was a robber and a killer and a liar. The Arab destroys everything he touches!”---Moshe Feiglin

Very interesting topic newman. I like the George Orwell quote. He has some great ones to his credit.

"Political language is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind."  --  George Orwell

The price good men pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men.  -- Plato

The time is coming when people will be insane and when they see someone who is not insane they will attack them saying: You are insane because you are not like us.  -- Abba Anthony

"A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government." ---George Washington

First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.

Nonsense, Old Chap.

Lemme show you how it's done:

"A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on."  --- Winston Churchill
