Everything is from Hashem for the purpose of correcting midot. It doesn't make sense in human logic to judge a guy of over 100 years old for not thinking that Hashem was going to send his barren wife of about the same age a son, but we can take one lesson that whatever Hashem tells us, we have to have to trust him. Lack of emmunah seems like the cause of every problem we have with Ishmael, so after we take what Hashem has to give us, we must use it.
