Australian vs Israeli democracy
« on: December 14, 2014, 08:41:19 AM »
In Australia you get a $250 fine if you don't vote. The result is that 99% of Australians vote, thus getting a true democratic picture.

In Israel the voting rate is 60%, and the fear is that this time it may drop to below 50% as people are so disgusted.

Imagine if 99% of the Israeli populace perforce voted: you'd have 20 Arab party MKs instead of 9: rather keep Israel's defective system as it is!

In Australia a candidate that gets less than 25% of the primary vote in an election can still win based on Australia's moronic preferential voting system as is what happened a few weeks ago leading to the election of a nazi from the greens party in one electorate. The party that won 61% of the primary vote in the whole state, lost the election. Some democracy!
