Yeshivat HaRa'ayon HaYehudi regrets to inform you of the passing, on the first night of Rosh Hashana, of Gershon (Gary) Cooperberg of Kiryat Arba, a truly good and dedicated Jew, after a long illness. At the time of his death he was at home, surrounded by his wife Andrea and all of his children.

The funeral took place tonight at 10:30 p.m. from Gary's home in the Meduragim district of Kiryat Arba, to the ancient cemetery in Hebron.

More details about the shiva will be forthcoming.

Gary served as Rabbi Meir Kahane's press secretary, and for 28 years, he also served as the shofar blower at the Rosh Hashana dawn minyan in the Cave of Machpela. He so looked forward to blowing the shofar at the Cave for the 29th time. But it was not to be.


Gary was also a regular at the Vatikin minyan at the Cave, including on weekdays. He also wrote an excellent blog for his own "Project Shofar", encouraging all Jews outside of Israel to make aliya as soon as possible.


May his soul be bound in the bonds of eternal life, and may Gershon/Gary z"l serve as Melitz Yosher for his family and for all of Am Israel. And may his family know no more sorrow.


(In the attached video, Gary z"l blows the shofar at the Cave of Machpela after the morning prayers, during his last visit there about two weeks ago.)
