Video games
« on: September 26, 2015, 10:02:30 AM »
Do any of the JTF members play video games around here? I read the Noahide's post about Shenmue. His post came true. They are making a sequel. What is your favorite game and why?

I like the first colonization, not much for graphics but it's got alot of depth. Castle of the winds is pretty fun too.

No! Keep me away from games!
Too dangerous. I've wasted countless hours on that PC.
I've stopped for many years. But now with phones ....

Back in the 1990s and 2000's I played too many games including popular ones like civilization, doom/quake/wolfenstein, street fighter...

Did you play the "What's Shenmue" release?

It is based on the senior director of Sega who released the Dreamcast console and your mission is to find him. Only released in japan and I have the english translated game unreleased outside of Japan.

The reason behind this premier disc "What's Shenmue" short story happened out of despair.
Shenmue was the most expensive Sega game ever developed and cost them hundreds of millions in losses to their business. Since the predecessor Saturn system, Ryo did not wear that brown jacket originally is one indication.
The Shenmue game was their swan song and they had to exit the hardware business at that time when Microsoft entered the console market while Sony released their ps2 console.
It was a pressuring disaster for Sega that time. There was no other choice for them. I was very upset when that happened because many gamers focused on sony with mediocre launch titles as Sega already released the next gen console ahead of its time with great visuals, online play, vmu, arcade ports, all quality titles.

No but I wish had.

You still can at the right place. The video is a brief introduction to the Sega business releasing this expensive game.
You can also place a donation to the upcoming Shenmue 3 at this link to enhance the development

Good for you. It shows that you care. Shenmue was always one of my favorite games. Both Shenmue 1 and 2 had beautiful background music, interesting characters and epic storyline.

Hopefully Shenmue 3 will be even better.

Recently revisited Shenmue Undub. This is the definitive version with japanese dialogue and english texts than the sub-par Ntsc-u english version.
It's made by fans, search it up.

I've been playing Game of Thrones: Ascent.

I like it because I can play it on facebook and I can get everything in the game without having to spend money. A lot of games make you have to pay money to get all the perks in the game. Paying money on that game gets you things faster, but you can still access all parts of the game for free, and the staff actually seems to be taking care of its players and gives out nice free stuff sometimes to use in-game on a regular basis.

I used to try to play other MMO type stuff and I came to the conclusion that the games I was playing required paying out money to make any real progress in them and you could only play a limited amount of the game for free. That wouldn't have been so much of a problem to pay for a "full" version of the game, but it wasn't really like that. They required that you continue to shell out in order to keep up with other players, which I wasn't willing to do.

I'll commend South Park for pointing out that "Freemeium isn't free", even though as usual the moral lesson is quite twisted.
