No, because all the third party candidate will do is be a spoiler. They won't win. I preferred Cruz but if Trump is going to be the nominee I think he'd be better than Hillary at least by a little bit. So I'd rather not have a third party candidate make certain Hillary's victory.

I would say vote against Hilary, which means in practice Trump assuming he is the Republican nominee.

Cruz may be the best man, but Trump may ban muzzie immigration, which is a great thing.   If Cruz doesn't make it, vote for Trump. Concerning Israel, I think (hope) Trump will be more like Reagan or W than Bonehead Hussein.

Chillary will turn the oval office over to huma abedin weiner and her muzzie bro'hood pals.  Not good.

It's hilarious that you really think he's going to do this.

I've thought that Trump may be lying about doing something about the Muslim immigration problem, but he may not be. At least with him we have somewhat of a chance of the Muslim problem at least being called by name.

I wouldn't get my hopes up too high though. He may be a Hillary clone.

Oh come on.  In all subsequent interviews he equivocates on the issue.   He says things like "there's a problem there.  We have to look into the problem."  He won't really commit to it, and he already gave his true opinion to the NY Times in privileged conversation which he refuses to release to the public.  There is a reason he refuses to release those comments.  Very likely because he revealed to the NY times people that he was just blowing smoke when he made comments against muslims and muslim immigration.    He does it to pander, for votes, and doesn't want his real view to be clearly stated as those voters will lose hope in this delusion he planted in people's minds.

Yeah I think there's a very high chance he's lying about every "good" thing he has said. At least he's bringing the issue up before the public to consider though. It is somewhat helpful that he's mainstreamed some of these positions by bringing them up even if he personally doesn't intend to follow through on them.

I have a slight variation of the question- lets say that a third party candidate, a very good and righteous one, runs in the elections. Would you vote for him just to make a moral stand even though there is no chance he could win?

Personally I do that kind of thing in the primaries, not in the general election. I would only see a third party candidate as a spoiler

If this scenario happens,  I'm keeping my options open to either voting for Donald Trump or writing in Ted Cruz.   So much will depend on what transpires in the coming months, including who Trump's V.P. choice is and the level of outreach to Ted Cruz.

Hopefully this nightmare scenario will not happen, but if Trump gets the nomination the party will have ceased to be Republican.  The choice would be between 2 Democrats.  Trump thinks his abortion activist sister would make a great Supreme Court justice.  Trump says Kim Davis should follow the Supreme Court activist ruling on homo unions and basically has a devil-may-care attitude about it.  Trump supports touchback amnesty, which may include a wall and deportations, but just brings illegals back into the country anyway so it's the same thing as amnesty but it's more expensive.  Trump supports socialized medicine, the big bank bailouts, and Osama's stimulus plan.  Trump will be "neutral" between Jews and terrorists and says Israel needs to make more sacrifices, which shows you how serious he is on Islamic terror.  Trump will not rip up the Iranian deal and in a jpost article he even said he would attack Israel to enforce a deal with Iran.  So he's actually as bad or worse than Hillary on some things.  So there would be no lesser of the evils in this case.

Therefore I would never support Trump or Hillary in a general election.  If a decent third party candidate emerges I might support them but it's hard to say who that would be now because any viable third party candidate would currently be all-in for Ted Cruz.  Ted Cruz cannot run third party because he said from the get-go that he would support the nominee because they all had to promise they would.  However if another candidate does not emerge, I would say there should be a #WriteInTedCruz movement.  We should not simply stay home because there are other elections taking place and they would all go to Democrats if conservatives stay home.
There is still a narrow chance that Cruz could get the numbers needed to gain the nomination however if Trump gets the nomination I will vote for him... Playing write in games is not going to accomplish anything... Most of the ballots go into a machine and the machine reads a set of dots nothing more... By the time someone looks at the paper ballot if ever Hillery will have been  sitting in the White House for a number of years... Brokered convention will give us Paul Ryan or some other party hack that will actually make Trump look like  a Goldwater by comparison... Hillery and the establishment republicans will get along just fine together... Trump and the establishment republicans will not... There are not a great deal of choices here anything but a clean two way race puts Hillery in office for some time to come.

After Donald Trump swept four of Tuesday’s five state primaries, party bigwigs are set to meet on Thursday to lay out a plan to derail the frontrunner’s path to the nomination.

According to Politico, the meeting was organized by former Bush administration official Bill Wichterman, conservative activist Erick Erickson, and Bob Fischer, a prominent GOP fundraiser and bundler.

Aside from coordinating efforts to prevent Trump’s nomination, conservative activists and party leaders will also mull an option that was unthinkable just half a year ago: breaking with the Republican Party and launching an independent, third party bid for the White House.

The idea of a third party conservative bid was first seriously broached in February when Republican donors called for research into the feasibility of such a scheme.

A memo produced by the conservative polling firm Data Targeting in late February was publicized by Politico, revealing research results indicating that “it is possible to mount an independent candidacy, but [it] will require immediate action”.

According to exit polls from Tuesday’s vote in critical battleground states, a third party run may enjoy wide backing among Republican voters.

A total of 39% of GOP voters in Florida, Illinoi, Missouri, North Carolina, and Ohio said that they would seriously consider backing a third party if Trump became the nominee. And a full 27% told pollsters that they would never vote for Trump under any circumstances, even if he won the nomination.

While the Republican Party is edging closer to a split, Democratic voters are also expressing frustration with frontrunner Hillary Clinton. According to last week’s NBC/Wall Street Journal poll, 33% of Sanders supporters would never vote for Clinton in a general election.

In addition, Clinton’s poor performance among working class whites in the Rust Belt indicates serious problems for her among that key demographic group in a head-to-head election with Trump. Trump has performed well among blue collar whites and could potentially pull many traditionally Democratic voters away from Clinton in a general election, particularly in the Midwest.

What happens if no presidential candidate gets 270 Electoral votes?

If no candidate receives a majority of Electoral votes, the House of Representatives elects the President from the 3 Presidential candidates who received the most Electoral votes. Each state delegation has one vote. The Senate would elect the Vice President from the 2 Vice Presidential candidates with the most Electoral votes. Each Senator would cast one vote for Vice President. If the House of Representatives fails to elect a President by Inauguration Day, the Vice-President Elect serves as acting President until the deadlock is resolved in the House.

That is a difficult question, I am going to try my best to vote for Ted Cruz, but if it comes down to a Republican vs a Democrat and it's Clinton or Bernie vs (insert Republican), what do you do?
